Thirty-five-year-old Nicole Mokeme was Portland, Maine\u2019s BLM superstar. She founded \u201cRise and Shine,\u201d a woodsy retreat where \u201cBIPOCs\u201d could gather and rant about whitey.<\/p>\n

As Mokeme stated on her website<\/a>, \u201cas the awareness of white terrorism began to rise, black youth suggested the need for sacred Black space.\u201d So she founded a black prideaway hideaway dedicated to \u201cBlack Liberation for Black people in Maine and beyond. A place where people of color explore the woods and not feel like we\u2019re on white territory.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mokeme moved from Philly to Maine to get away from \u201cwhite territory.\u201d There\u2019s \u201cblack genius\u201d for ya.<\/p>\n

Mokeme was of course a huge \u201cdefund the police\u201d advocate (George Soros is currently spending big to take over the Portland DA\u2019s office<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Last month, as Mokeme was setting up a Juneteenth shindig at the \u201cBlack Excellence Retreat\u201d in Acadia National Park, her boyfriend, 35-year-old Raymond Lester\u2014an excellent black man\u2014turned her into pothole filler in a rage-motivated hit-and-run<\/a>. Lester, an inveterate criminal, had been a lifetime beneficiary of \u201cprogressive prosecution,\u201d having evaded a 2008 domestic violence assault conviction ($300 fine), a 2010 domestic violence and theft conviction ($300 fine), an April 2011 arrest for violating a protective order (five days in jail), and a July 2011 felony domestic violence assault and criminal mischief conviction (six months).<\/p>\n

In one domestic violence incident, Lester broke his then girlfriend\u2019s jaw with a hammer and strangled her unconscious.<\/p>\n

Between 2012 and 2021, Lester was arrested for drug possession, theft, stolen ID, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, felony receiving stolen property, and forgery. In 2021, he was arrested for assault yet again, but even with all his priors, prosecutors offered a \u201cdeferred disposition,\u201d in which Lester avoided prison by promising to \u201cnot engage in new criminal conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n

He agreed, and promptly murdered Nicole Mokeme.<\/p>\n

When I read that story, I have to admit that my first thought wasn\u2019t \u201cOh, what a tragedy\u201d but \u201cAt least they got one of their own.\u201d That may not be the Sunday-school reaction, but it was sincere. \u201cFinally, one of those \u2018defund\u2019 freaks paid the price instead of some innocent white girl or elderly Asian.\u201d<\/p>\n
