Having sustained heavy losses in the face of a relentless Russian advance, Ukrainian President Zelensky\u2019s call to build a \u201cmillion-strong\u201d army to recapture lost territory is basically an admission of defeat.<\/p>\n

When you strip away the Western MSM spin \u2013 that minimises Russian gains while playing down Ukrainian losses \u2013 you are looking at the prospect of Kiev being forced to relinquish large swathes of fertile farmland in the east and potentially all of its vital Black Sea ports to the south.<\/p>\n

Such a scenario would be economically catastrophic for Kiev, that\u2019s why Zelensky\u2019s call to build a \u201cmillion-strong army\u201d can be dismissed. For a start, Ukraine would need at least a year to recruit, and more importantly train, such a force and it simply doesn\u2019t have the time.<\/p>\n

While Ukraine would struggle to recruit and train enough men Russia would steadily consolidate its hold over the captured territory, militarily and politically.<\/p>\n

The breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk are staunchly pro-Russian while Odessa, although still under Kiev\u2019s control, has a large Russian-speaking population many of whom would welcome Russian occupation.<\/p>\n

The longer this war continues the worse things look for ordinary Ukrainians. Not that Zelensnsky cares. Instead, now worth an estimated $850 million<\/a> and backed by Ukrainian oligarchs<\/a> the former TV actor turned president seems more interested in setting up a much bigger confrontation.<\/p>\n

Why else would he reject a peace offer<\/a> only days before Russia launched its campaign?<\/p>\n

In reality, Zelensky is busy setting up a bigger confrontation in Ukraine between Russia and the West. That\u2019s why he and his associates are rumoured to have made extensive investments overseas<\/a>. So that when the conflict REALLY ignites Zelensky and his accomplices wont be anywhere near Kiev.<\/p>\n

Rather they will be in one of the many luxurious properties they are suspected of owning in Italy, Florida and Switzerland.<\/p>\n

There is in fact a precedent for this. Just days before Russia invaded in February, 20 chartered jets left Kiev<\/a> carrying wealthy local businessmen and their families to safety. Leaving ordinary Ukrainians behind to face what was to come.<\/p>\n

We suspect that Zelensky is planning a repeat performance of that in the coming weeks. Ed.<\/p>\n

Ukraine building 1m strong army to recapture south, says minister<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ukraine\u2019s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has asked military chiefs to draw up plans to gather a \u201cmillion-strong\u201d fighting force equipped with western weapons to recapture its southern territory from Russia, the country\u2019s defence minister said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zelenskiy has ordered his military to recover occupied areas around the Black Sea coast that are vital to the country\u2019s economy, Oleksii Reznikov said in an interview with the Times.<\/p>\n

Reznikov said:<\/p>\n

We understand that, politically, it\u2019s very necessary for our country. The president has given the order to the supreme military chief to draw up plans. After that the general staff are doing their homework and say to achieve this goal we need XYZ.<\/p>\n

Reznikov said he was writing letters to his counterparts in partner countries to talk about \u201cwhy we need this kind of weaponry and then we get the political decisions\u201d.<\/p>\n

His British counterpart, Ben Wallace, was \u201ckey\u201d to helping shift the approach to providing Nato standard artillery, guided multiple launch rocket systems and hi-tech drones, he said.<\/p>\n

Reznikov said he had a \u201cgreat relationship\u201d with Wallace and the UK\u2019s armed forces minister, James Heappey, adding that he saw \u201ca lot of Ukrainian flags\u201d while in London.<\/p>\n

He said he was satisfied with the support Ukraine was receiving from Nato partners but said it needed \u201cmore, quickly, to save the lives of our soldiers\u201d<\/p>\n
