Russian general turned lawmaker, Andrei Gurulyov says “London” will be a prime target<\/a> should war erupt<\/p>\n

The Russian military is ready for a potentially massive conflict with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, according to a retired Russian general and member of the country\u2019s legislature on Friday.<\/p>\n

During a panel discussion on the state-run Russia 1 channel, \u201cEvening with Vladimir Solovyev\u201d host Vladimir Solovyev asked the panel to assess why Russia\u2019s ongoing invasion of Ukraine had elicited so much support for the Ukrainian government from the countries in the western NATO alliance. During the discussion, Russian military general-turned-lawmaker Andrei Gurulyov\u00a0said Russia is preparing for everything, including \u201ca big colossal war\u201d with NATO, should the current conflict in Ukraine escalate.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s look at current military operations,\u201d Gurulyov began his remarks before describing the support NATO has provided to Ukraine\u2019s government thus far.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey thought they could stop us with Soviet arms, but they couldn\u2019t stop us,\u201d Gurulyov said. He also said NATO had thought the fighting in Ukraine might die down after Russian forces backed away from the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, but the conflict has only continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re starting to realize that sooner or later, we will achieve the goals set by our president, of the denazification of the entire territory of Ukraine,\u201d Gurulyov added, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s claimed reason for ordering the invasion of Ukraine. \u201cThis group, with the weapons they already have, with more arms to be delivered, will end up on the borders of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, combat-ready and fully armed. Right now they\u2019re practicing and observing. Every division has NATO instructors. They\u2019re writing instructions on how to use arms, they\u2019re watching how they work and how we respond, how to counteract our means.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gurulyov said NATO \u201cmade their move. Now it\u2019s our turn. How will we respond to these challenges? We should respond the same way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gurulyov then said, \u201call modern means should be provided to our armed forces.\u201d<\/p>\n

The retired Russian general said Russian forces still have much of Ukraine left to subdue before its forces move far enough west to reach Ukraine\u2019s border with Poland, But, Gurulyov said, Russia\u2019s military production is increasing and once Russian troops reach the western edge of Ukraine, \u201cWe have to consider every option up to a big colossal war and be ready for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAre we ready?\u201d Gurulyov added. \u201cWe\u2019re ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier during the panel discussion, commentator Alexander Sosnovsky said western nations had been preparing for a wider conflict with Russia all along and described NATO\u2019s current actions as \u201cegging on the entire world against Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sosnovsky also described \u201cNATO\u2019s involvement in a nuclear arms race\u201d which he said could lead to a \u201cpotential nuclear conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n
