An Austin, Texas school teacher said that of the 32 fourth-grade students in her class, 20 have \u201ccome out\u201d to her as \u201cLGBTQIA+,\u201d according to a leaked internal school message.<\/p>\n

The claim reportedly came from a teacher at the Austin Independent School District (ISD)\u2019s Blackshear Elementary School, according to<\/a> the Daily Caller, which originally obtained the internal messages from<\/a> the \u201cLibs of Tik Tok\u201d Twitter account.<\/p>\n

The teacher\u2019s revelation came as part of a complaint that Blackshear Elementary School principal Rick Garner referred to the morning\u2019s Pride Parade \u2014 an ISD-wide celebration of LGBTQ sexuality and gender \u2014 as a \u201cwellness walk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel that it is inappropriate to call our parade this morning a \u2018Wellness Walk\u2019 at all. While I understand that Wellness Walk is something that was previously in motion to promote health and fitness and is something we want to continue, it really takes away from the experience of celebrating Pride to couple the two,\u201d wrote the teacher, who has not been publicly identified.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first Pride was a riot,\u201d wrote the teacher, apparently referencing the Stonewall Riots that inspired the first gay pride parades. \u201cIt is not enough to just \u2018welcome,\u2019 \u2018love,\u2019 and \u2018celebrate\u2019 Queer folx. Your allyship should always lead you to activism \u2014 speaking up and fighting for what is right, even when it feels uncomfortable,\u201d the teacher continued.<\/p>\n

She went on to write, \u201cOut of the 32 students that I teach, 20 of them are LGBTQIA+ and have come out to me. I feel that we need to do better \u2014 for them. To affirm our students, I think it would be only appropriate and right to publicly announce what we had this morning was a PRIDE Parade. Our students are aware and are paying attention.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garner responded to the teacher\u2019s concern in an email provided to the Daily Caller, attempting to explain his use of the term \u201cWellness Walk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for participating in our Pride Parade this morning,\u201d the email reads. \u201cIt was never my intention to confuse the staff or students by calling our Pride Parade a wellness walk. Our objective was to celebrate differences and promote inclusivity.\u201d<\/p>\n

One Twitter commentator expressed<\/a> concern that this teacher\u2019s students will suffer for years to come from confusion about their sexual orientation or gender identity: \u201cAll of the poor kids will now need counseling and will spend their middle school years more confused than ever. As a parent, I would be LIVID. I hope parents sue and have the teacher fired.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Newsweek<\/em> report from October 2021 claimed <\/a>that nearly 40 percent of U.S. young adults ages 18-24 identify as LGBTQ, as compared with 30 percent of Millennials, which was in turn \u201cmore than three times\u201d the amount who self-identified as LGBTQ in the rest of the adult population.<\/p>\n

If the Austin elementary school teacher is correct, then 62.5 percent of her students are \u201cLGBTQIA+.\u201d<\/p>\n

ISD was under fire last week after guidelines for \u201cPRIDE Community Circles\u201d issued by Doss Elementary School were leaked, showing<\/a> students as young as four years old were instructed to keep their LGBT class discussions confidential.<\/p>\n

LifeSiteNews reached out to Garner for comment, but has not received a response.<\/p>\n
