Were these really \u201cBritish ex-Special Forces\u201d as the so-called Independent claims below? After all, Special Forces are trained to operate behind enemy lines. Or were they actually active duty personnel deployed to the Yaroriv Training Centre in Western Ukraine to oversee and co-ordinate weapons supplies from NATO?<\/p>\n
Only weeks before the Russia invasion Briton despatched thirty Special Forces members to Ukraine<\/a> with thousands of anti-tank missiles. These guys know that if they are captured or killed the British authorites will deny they were members of the armed forces. That way the UK government can avoid being blamed for their actions. In fact, that’s an integral part of the deal in many Special Forces units around the world.<\/p>\n Was the same true for these guys?<\/p>\n Fears that three British ex-special forces troops have been killed by a Russian attack in Ukraine<\/a> are being investigated.<\/p>\n UK authorities are investigating after dozens were killed in a missile strike close to the Ukrainian border with Nato <\/a>member Poland<\/a> on Sunday, amid unconfirmed reports that three Britons were among the casualties.<\/p>\n There has been no official confirmation of their deaths.<\/p>\n More than 30\u00a0missiles\u00a0targeted a training facility in Yavoriv, less than 15 miles from the Polish border, according to the governor of Ukraine\u2019s western Lviv region. More than 130 people were injured<\/p>\n However a source told the Daily Mirror <\/em>that there were \u201cmany more killed within the site than has been claimed\u201d and that the three men who reportedly died had not been part of a foreign fighters unit that was being trained at the International Centre for Peacekeeping and Security.<\/p>\n The Ministry of Defence said it could only comment on cases involving military personnel.<\/p>\n US military instructor oversees combat drills at the Yaroriv Combat Training Centre last December. Click to enlarge<\/p><\/div>\n Asked in the aftermath of the attack, sources at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) told The Daily Mirror<\/em> that they were unaware of any British casualties among the dead.<\/p>\n British citizens are advised against all travel to Ukraine by the FCDO, while transport secretary Grant Shapps warned British troops and ex-service personnel last week that it is illegal for them to join the fighting in Ukraine.<\/p>\n Following a similar warning from defence secretary Ben Wallace, Mr Shapps told ITV\u2019s Good Morning Britain<\/em> that any Briton who does so risks worsening a \u201cdangerous situation\u201d.<\/p>\n The training centre appeared to be the most westerly target struck so far in the 18-day conflict, deepening fears of an escalation in the war should Russian missiles inadvertently strike Poland.<\/p>\n Nato said on Sunday that it currently does not have any personnel in Ukraine, though the US has increased the number of US troops deployed to Poland and neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n The Russian attack involved air-launched cruise missiles fired from Russian airspace by long-range bombers, a senior US defence official said on Monday.<\/p>\n The official added that there were no US troops, contractors or civilian government workers at the base.<\/p>\nAndy Gregory, Tom Batchelor \u2013 The Independent March 15, 2022<\/strong><\/h1>\n
