{"id":248121,"date":"2022-01-09T09:14:40","date_gmt":"2022-01-09T09:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=248121"},"modified":"2022-01-11T07:25:19","modified_gmt":"2022-01-11T07:25:19","slug":"us-to-establish-new-special-forces-base-in-albania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=248121","title":{"rendered":"US to Establish New Special Forces Base in Albania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Above: US Patriot air defense missiles deployed near the Polish border with Russia<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Joe Saballa \u2013 The Defense Post Jan 7, 2022<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Albanian Prime Minister <strong>Edi Rama<\/strong> announced on Thursday that US Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR) is establishing forward operating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/news\/412525\/special-operations-command-europe-announces-establishment-forward-deployed-headquarters-albania\">headquarters<\/a> in the Balkan country.<\/p>\n<p>The opening of a new US facility in Albania is part of an ongoing American effort to enhance its special operations capabilities as a \u201ckeystone\u201d for stability in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The headquarters will serve as a home base for country-wide military missions and allow US special operations troops more logistical flexibility and better access to regional transportation hubs.<\/p>\n<p>According to SOCEUR commander Maj. Gen. <strong>David Tabor<\/strong>, Albania is the \u201cbest location\u201d for a new special forces base since it allows the US military to move rapidly and train with allied forces within the Balkan region.<\/p>\n<p>The headquarters will put American special forces close to countries such as Greece, Kosovo, Bosnia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, where Russian political and military influence have increased.<\/p>\n<p>Although the US has not revealed the precise number of special operations troops to be stationed in Albania, it explained that service members will be deployed to the new facility on a rotational basis.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018Responding to Emerging Threats\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Special Forces are a highly trained military unit often tasked to perform counterterrorism and reconnaissance missions.
