During his marathon annual year-end press conference Q&A, which this year lasted about four hours, Russian President Vladimir Putin once again vowed to defend Russian society against the intrusion of the corrupted values of the West,\u00a0in particular\u00a0blasting the<\/a>\u00a0\u201cgender obscurantism\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0pushed by the United States and Europe.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am a proponent of the traditional approach that\u00a0a woman is a woman and a man is a man<\/strong>,\u201d\u00a0Putin\u00a0laid out,<\/a>\u00a0which it goes without saying also reflects basic Biology 101 and humans\u2019 self-understanding for thousands upon thousands of years. He continued in the remarks on gender: \u201cA mother is a mother, a father is a father.\u00a0And I hope that our society has the internal moral protection dictated by the traditional religious denominations of the Russian Federation<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Throughout the remarks he called it basic \u201ccommon sense\u201d \u2013 which strongly suggested that the opposite is currently the rule of the day in America and the West generally, where people fear being \u201ccanceled\u201d in their jobs and during public discourse if they don\u2019t confirm to concepts of \u2018gender fluidity\u2019 and\u00a0Frankenstein reassignment surgeries<\/a>, which is even increasingly being pushed on children.<\/p>\n

Putin was responding to a question form a journalist over recent gender controversies in the West, and also the way it has\u00a0impacted women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we learned to treat each other with respect. And what does it mean? That also means treating the foundations of our traditional spiritual culture with respect. All the peoples of the Russian Federation, I would like to stress,\u00a0<\/em>all of them have a certain internal moral protection against this obscurantism<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0that you\u2019ve just mentioned,\u201d the Russian leader said.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIf somebody thinks that a woman and a man are the same thing, they\u2019re welcome to [their opinion], but<\/em>\u00a0a certain common sense should exist<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Holding up his country\u2019s traditional values as the \u201cantidote\u201d to the \u201cnew ethics\u201d, he also seemed to allude to the \u201cspiritual values\u201d of the Russian Orthodox Church, which has long been dominant in Russian society.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when he likened the West\u2019s attempts to push these things on Eastern Europe to a\u00a0viral\u00a0infection<\/em>\u2026 \u201cjust like the coronavirus pandemic,\u201d\u00a0he said<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cJust like with the coronavirus pandemic one can\u2019t escape [non-traditional values coming from abroad]. We need to look for an antidote.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Referring indirectly to last summer\u2019s Olympic Games in Tokyo which saw\u00a0New Zealand transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard \u2013\u00a0who is a biological man \u2013 compete as a woman, Putin described situations where it\u2019s now as simple as someone\u00a0\u201cdeclaring\u00a0that he is a woman and starts competing in weightlifting\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it is necessary to fight this not with direct orders and shouts and accusations but with the support for our traditional values,\u201d he asserted further. Additionally according to a description in\u00a0TASS<\/a>\u00a0of his remarks, he \u201ccited the example of an incident in the US when a criminal serving time for rape declared that he was female and after a transfer to a women\u2019s prison committed the same crime in his cell.\u201d<\/p>\n

The remarks also come at a time that multiple sports controversies have erupted in the US regarding trans competitors, particularly the ongoing saga of a University of Pennsylvania \u201cmale-to-female\u201d swimmer who\u2019s smashing all records\u2026<\/p>\n
