Omicron could cause between 25,000 and 75,000 deaths in England<\/a> over the next five months without tougher Covid restrictions, experts have told the government.<\/p>\n

Scientists from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) also warned that Omicron, first discovered in southern Africa, is likely to be the dominant coronavirus variant by the end of the month.<\/p>\n

Even in the most optimistic scenario, projected infections could lead to a peak of more than 2,000 daily hospital admissions, with a total of 175,000 hospital admissions and 24,700 deaths between 1 December and 30 April.<\/p>\n

The scientists, who advise the government as part of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) and the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling (Spi-M), used experimental data to look at how the transmission of Omicron might develop as the country heads into 2022 without more stringent restrictions beyond Boris Johnson\u2019s \u201cplan B\u201d.<\/p>\n

Dr Nick Davies, from LSHTM\u2019s Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases, who co-led the research, said on Saturday: \u201cThese are early estimates, but they do suggest that, overall, Omicron is outcompeting Delta rapidly by evading vaccines to a substantial degree.<\/p>\n

In other words BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID. Trouble is we witnessed exactly the same routine last year.<\/p>\n

Then, Professor Neil Ferguson warned that unless the government acted decisively \u2013 with lockdowns and mass vaccination programs \u2013 as many as 500,000 could die<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since then, although the mainstream media seemed to have conveniently forgotten Ferguson\u2019s warning and the professor was forced to resign his position on the UK government\u2019s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) \u2013 Covid-19 has left nowhere near as many as 500,000 dead in the UK.<\/p>\n

It has however, transformed into a \u201cnew variant\u201d So now another member of Sage has come forward with similarly dire predictions. His warning was backed-up only days ago, when Professor Ferguson himself cautioned that it would be hard to \u201crule out further lockdowns\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n
