Rittenhouse shot and killed convicted child rapist Joseph Rosenbaum and felon Anthony Huber, both of whom attacked him first. Judge Bruce Schroeder also took the media to task from the bench on numerous occasions, calling coverage of the trial <em>\u201cscary\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cgrossly irresponsible.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Independent was not the only newspaper to make a mistake in relation to the race of the three men who were shot. Singapore\u2019s Straits Times described the victims as black, before\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/world\/united-states\/teens-acquittal-of-killing-2-men-reveals-widening-political-split-in-us\">issuing a correction<\/a>\u00a0and apologizing for the error. A Dutch news site,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nu.nl\/\">NU.nl<\/a>, also\u00a0described\u00a0them as\u00a0<em>\u201cblack Americans,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>before editing out their race entirely.<\/p>\n<p>Such coverage apparently misled some readers.
