This led to the use of irritants, batons and physical violence,&#8221; Berlin police tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>Police added that\u00a0law enforcers had to use\u00a0water cannon\u00a0to disperse the protesters.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether some 500 people were arrested or detained briefly to obtain their personal details.<\/p>\n<p>&lt;iframe width=&#8221;560&#8243; height=&#8221;315&#8243; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/73MxEV0gom0&#8243; title=&#8221;YouTube video player&#8221; frameborder=&#8221;0&#8243; allow=&#8221;accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture&#8221; allowfullscreen&gt;&lt;\/iframe&gt;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8216;Querdenker&#8217; core<\/h2>\n<p>The demonstration\u00a0was called by the &#8220;Querdenker&#8221; (Lateral Thinkers) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/germany-flood-helpers-pelted-with-garbage\/a-58623123\">movement<\/a>, which has emerged as the loudest voice against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/germany-could-make-unvaccinated-pay-for-covid-tests-report\/a-58713602\">Germany&#8217;s COVID-19<\/a>\u00a0restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>Judges had prohibited\u00a0several of its planned gatherings\u00a0this weekend, including one for\u00a0Sunday that organizers\u00a0expected would\u00a0attract over\u00a020,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>The court said it could not allow the rallies to go ahead over fears participants would flout rules on mask wearing and social distancing, at a time when Germany&#8217;s COVID infection numbers are on the rise.<\/p>\n<p>The Querdenker movement\u00a0has been\u00a0particularly popular among\u00a0anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists, and has also attracted\u00a0members of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/coronavirus-berlin-anti-lockdown-protesters-clash-with-police\/a-58722453\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite a court order banning the protests, thousands gather in Berlin to protest COVID restrictions.
