In the port city of Durban on the Indian Ocean, heavily armed Indian militias were patrolling the streets and assisting the police in arresting looters.<\/p>\n<p>The local Indian community is said to be fighting back against Zulu rioters. Videos on Twitter showed a squatter camp in Pietermaritzburg being torched.<\/p>\n<p>Racist activists were quick to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opindia.com\/2021\/07\/indians-in-south-africa-rape-massacre-racism-threats-social-media-incite-violence\/\"><strong>accuse the local Indian population<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0of being at fault for \u201cescalating\u201d the violence, which was started by the supporters of Jacob Zuma.<\/p>\n<p>Julius Malema, racist leader of the \u201cEconomic Freedom Fighters\u201d, retweeted a post to his 3.6 million followers that said: \u201cIndians are going hunting for black people and shooting at random.
