Video footage of the incident showed the US Air Force veteran attempting to get through a set of locked doors inside the building before being shot in the neck.<\/p>\n<p>The identity of the officer responsible for killing Babbitt remains unknown to this day.<\/p>\n<p>However, journalist Piers Morgan revealed today that media outlets are fully aware of his name and background but are fearful of releasing the information due to warnings from law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know who it is,\u201d writes Morgan. \u201cI know his name, his age, his rank, his family status and his service record.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">*NEW COLUMN*<br \/>I know who killed Capitol Hill rioter Ashli Babbitt but you don\u2019t, and neither does her family \u2013 and whether you think she\u2019s a traitor or a patriot, that is a shameful failure of public transparency and justice.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/52eSsbTG6j\">https:\/\/t.co\/52eSsbTG6j<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XPifp7IsNi\">pic.twitter.com\/XPifp7IsNi<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/piersmorgan\/status\/1412772339083796488?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 7, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>I know all this because <a href=\"http:\/\/DailyMail.com\">DailyMail.com<\/a> journalists did their job and found out, as I am sure have journalists from other news organizations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Although I\u2019m equally sure that many prestigious left-leaning news organizations \u2013 who ought to know better \u2013 have probably not even bothered.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Nobody has reported the information yet because there has been enormous pressure put on the media from the Capitol Police and the officer\u2019s legal team not to do so for fear it would endanger his life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Morgan went on to describe continued efforts to keep the officer\u2019s identity a secret \u201ca shameful failure of public transparency and justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Babbitt\u2019s family have also been rebuffed in efforts to find out the officer\u2019s name, with her widower Aaron Babbitt being forced to file a lawsuit claiming the Metropolitan Police Department failed to comply with a Freedom of Information Act request.<\/p>\n<p>Critics have contrasted the case to the death of George Floyd.
