Black business owners in \u2018George Floyd Square\u2019 are pleading for help as crime has skyrocketed since activists declared the area an \u201cautonomous zone.\u201d<\/h4>\n

\u201cGeorge Floyd Square\u201d is an activist-run area at the once-thriving intersection of East 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis. Following the death of Floyd in the area, it has become an ongoing protest zone.<\/h4>\n

Speaking to the New York Post<\/span><\/a>, local business owners condemned the activists for driving police and first responders away from the area.<\/h4>\n

\u201cThe city left me in danger,\u201d the owner of Smoke In The Pit restaurant told The Post Thursday.<\/h4>\n

They locked us up on here and left us behind,\u201d said the merchant, who asked to be identified only as Alexander W. for fear of reprisals.<\/h4>\n

\u201cThey left me with no food, no water, nothing to eat,\u201d he said. \u201cThe police, fire trucks, can\u2019t come in here.\u201d<\/h4>\n

The Post reports that at least five stores along one block are shuttered. Owners and workers at most of the stores that do remain open were too afraid to comment. \u201cThe black-owned businesses say they have lost 75-percent of their business since the Floyd memorial sprouted up shortly after his death \u2014 and have even launched a GoFundMe fundraising page in a desperate bid to stay afloat,\u201d the report explains.<\/h4>\n

\u201cLook around, things are empty,\u201d said Richard Roberts, who works at the nearby Worldwide Outreach for Christ church. \u201cWhat can we do about it?\u201d<\/h4>\n

The business owners have now launched a fundraiser<\/span><\/a> pleading for help.<\/h4>\n

\u201cIn the fight for justice we must not forget the fight of economic justice of (a) once-thriving community,\u201d the fundraising page says. \u201cWe business owners know that the fight for justice doesn\u2019t just include justice from the legal system, we must also include justice for business impacted.\u201d<\/h4>\n

Just last month there was a fatal shooting<\/span><\/a> in the area. A BLM activist who calls herself a medic for the \u2018autonomous zone<\/a>\u2018<\/span> told the\u00a0Washington Times<\/a><\/em> that she heard what sounded like \u201c500 gunshots\u201d during her shift.<\/h4>\n
