he said<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>His testimony is in stark contrast to the earlier experts&#8217;, pathologist Dr. Lindsey Thomas and expert pulmonologist Dr. Martin Tobin<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Thomas claimed that George Floyd died as a result of &#8216;low oxygen&#8217; of the time.<\/p>\n<p>In a massive departure from the prosecution&#8217;s contention Hennepin County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Andrew Baker said, &#8216;In my impression from the video it would appear that Mr. Chauvin&#8217;s knee was primarily on the back, on the side or the area in between Mr. Floyd&#8217;s neck (and back).&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Under cross examination Friday afternoon Dr. Baker told the court that asphyxia was &#8216;a very common cause&#8217; of the deaths that he had seen across 2,900 to 3,000 autopsies but it was not the conclusion that he came to before, or after, having seen the videos of the incident on May 25, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>In a startlingly brief direct questioning by Jerry Blackwell, Dr. Baker told the court that Floyd died because being pinned down on the ground with his neck compressed was, &#8216;just more than he could take,&#8217; given his severe underlying heart disease.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if, in his opinion, the positioning of Chauvin&#8217;s knee would cut off Floyd&#8217;s oxygen supply, Dr. Baker said, &#8216;In my opinion it would not.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>In his view, he said, &#8216;It was the stress of that interaction that tipped him over the edge given his underlying heart disease and his toxicological status.<\/p>\n<p>The doctor told the court that he had deliberately avoided all video footage until after he conducted the autopsy because he did not want to introduce any &#8216;bias&#8217;
