Nelson countered that Floyd was saying \u201cI can\u2019t breathe,\u201d while resisting being put into the cop car \u2014 before Chauvin\u2019s knee was anywhere near him.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u201cIf somebody is saying, \u2018I can\u2019t breathe,\u2019 and they\u2019re passing out and they\u2019re not resisting, that\u2019s one form of an analysis, right, because the actions of the suspect are consistent with the verbal utterances he\u2019s making, right?\u201d Nelson asked.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u201cOther times and in this particular case, when Mr. Floyd was initially saying that he couldn\u2019t breathe, he was actively resisting arrest initially when he was in the back seat of the vehicle, right?\u201d he continued.<\/h4>\n<h4>Nelson went on to explain that the officers had to change tactics \u201cwhen the futility of the three officers continuing their efforts forcibly to seat Floyd in the squad\u2019s back seat became clear.\u201d<\/h4>\n<h4>The defense also played the clip of Floyd allegedly admitting to eating too many drugs.
