{"id":230296,"date":"2021-03-27T06:40:32","date_gmt":"2021-03-27T06:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=230296"},"modified":"2021-03-28T08:13:57","modified_gmt":"2021-03-28T08:13:57","slug":"minnesota-theater-cancels-production-of-cinderella-because-the-cast-is-too-white","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=230296","title":{"rendered":"Minnesota theater cancels production of Cinderella because the cast is &#8216;too white&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Located south West of Minneapolis, Chanhassen has an overwhelming white population<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chanhassen Dinner Theatres was scheduled to stage a production of Cinderella later this year<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>However, the show was scrapped when its artistic director noted that the cast was overwhelmingly white\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Chanhassen Dinner Theatres has recently hired a diversity consultant and instituted new &#8216;Diversity, Equity and Inclusion&#8217; protocols\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>A production of Footloose, which will feature a more racially diverse cast, is now being planned for 2022 instead\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Andrew Court \u2013 Daily Mail March 25, 2021<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/minnesota\/index.html\"><strong>Minnesota<\/strong><\/a> theater has cancelled a production of Roger &amp; Hammerstein&#8217;s Cinderella because its cast was &#8216;too white&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Chanhassen Dinner Theatres was scheduled to stage the show later this year before its artistic director stepped in to slam its lack of diversity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It was 98 percent white, &#8216; the artistic director, Michael Brindisi, told the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twincities.com\/2021\/03\/22\/in-a-new-push-for-diversity-chanhasssen-dinner-theatres-scraps-plans-to-stage-cinderella\/\"><strong> Pioneer Press <\/strong><\/a>on Wednesday after looking at who had been cast.<\/p>\n<p>However, Chanhassen &#8211; located southwest of Minneapolis &#8211; has a population that is overwhelming white, and the racial demographics of the cast were not strikingly different from the city as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>According to the most recent census, 92.5 percent of people in\u00a0Chanhassen are white. Less than 3 percent of residents are Hispanic, while 1.1 percent are black.<\/p>\n<p>No photos of the Cinderella cast were officially released before the show was scrapped.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released on Monday, the theater stated: &#8216;After careful consideration and with our ongoing commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, we have made the decision to cancel our upcoming production.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;In addition to changing future programming, we are establishing new pre-production protocols.
