VP Harris continues high-level talks without Biden, speaks to Israeli PM Netanyahu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Above: Kamala Harris hosts a virtual town hall event at the White-House, Feb 18, 2021<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>RT \u2013 March 5, 2021<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Vice President Kamala Harris has spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu without President Joe Biden being present, the latest in a series of calls to world leaders usually conducted by the president.<\/p>\n<p>Harris spoke to Netanyahu on Thursday, with a White House readout of the call saying she <em>\u201cunderscored the Biden-Harris Administration\u2019s commitment to the US-Israel partnership,\u201d<\/em> and affirmed her opposition to the International Criminal Court prosecuting Israeli soldiers for alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/op-ed\/517225-lsrael-palestine-war-crimes-icc\/\">war crimes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I spoke with Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/netanyahu?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Netanyahu<\/a> of Israel. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@POTUS<\/a> and I are unwavering in our commitment to Israel\u2019s security. However, Biden\u2019s absence was notable.<\/p>\n<p>Biden spoke to Netanyahu in February, and to President Alejandro Giammattei Falla of Guatemala on Thursday. Yet Harris has taken responsibility for several head-to-head calls with world leaders, most notably Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrisson, as well as World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.<\/p>\n<p>That Harris, who had next to no foreign policy experience before coming to the White House, would handle these tasks instead of Biden, who has two stints in the executive branch under his belt already, as well as decades in the Senate, is puzzling. A Politico report attributes Harris\u2019 role as the administration\u2019s international face to her own interest in foreign affairs, and to Biden\u2019s efforts to groom her as a likely successor, given the fact that he will be 82 years old at the end of his first term.<\/p>\n<p>Yet Biden has taken a back seat in his own administration in other areas too. Donald Trump was more of a micromanager, and at one point last year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/497004-trump-executive-order-immigration\/\">intervened<\/a> to fire two federal power company bosses for outsourcing jobs. Biden, by contrast, is seemingly content to let the federal bureaucracy run itself.<\/p>\n<p>He has not yet given a press conference, letting Press Secretary Jen Psaki handle interactions with the media.
