These reported deaths come days after a large convoy of U.S. military vehicles backed by helicopters reportedly entered<\/a> north eastern Syria.<\/p>\n

I do not know whether the deaths reported below occurred on the same military convoy but the timing of these reports is intriguing. They follow calls by French President Macron<\/a> to the newly elected Biden to show a greater commitment to fight terror, in areas of operations such as Iraq and Syria.<\/p>\n

For the past year under Trump the U.S. has been scaling back its military activity in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Will this now change under Biden? Are we about to see renewed activity in the “War on Terror” under Biden?<\/p>\n

Three killed after bomb blast hits US Hummer in Syria: SANA<\/h1>\n

A powerful bomb blast has hit a US\u00a0military vehicle\u00a0in\u00a0Syria\u2019s oil-rich eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr, killing at least\u00a0three people.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Syria\u2019s official news agency SANA, citing local sources, said the blast took place on Friday when an explosive device went off in a\u00a0Hummer as it was traveling along the road to al-Omar oil field.<\/p>\n

The oil field, occupied by American forces, is Syria\u2019s largest and lies some 10 kilometers\u00a0north of the town of al-Mayadin.<\/p>\n

The report said it was not immediately clear whether those killed were militants affiliated with the US-sponsored Kurdish SDF militants\u00a0or American troops.<\/p>\n

The US military has\u00a0made no comments on the incident yet.<\/p>\n

Over the past several months, the US military has brought in hundreds of truckloads of munitions and logistical equipment to Syria\u2019s Dayr al-Zawr and Hasakah provinces through illegal border crossings with northern Iraq.<\/p>\n

The US, in collusion with the SDF, controls most of the oil fields in the energy-rich provinces.<\/p>\n

Syria produced around 380,000 barrels of oil per day before the\u00a0onset\u00a0of the\u00a0conflict there in March 2011.<\/p>\n

The US first confirmed its looting of Syrian oil during a Senate hearing exchange between South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and former US secretary of state Mike Pompeo in late July last year.<\/p>\n

During his testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at the time, Pompeo confirmed for the first time that an American oil company would begin work in northeastern Syria.<\/p>\n
