BBC diversity chief June Sarpong has insisted that \u201cwhite privilege\u201d is a fact and white people \u201cwill never be discriminated against\u201d for their race.<\/p>\n

Sarpong, the London-born daughter of\u00a0Ghanaian migrants, told<\/a> the Telegraph<\/em> that\u00a0\u201cThere is unfairness baked into our system\u201d in an interview on her role as the publicly-funded broadcaster\u2019s\u00a0director of creative diversity.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t for a single second say that all white people are privileged. Of course not. But there are benefits even if you come from a low income and you\u2019re white. You\u2019re never judged on your race,\u201d she claimed, adding:\u00a0\u201cYou may be discriminated against because of class, you may be discriminated against because of your age, you may be discriminated against because of gender, size, etc, but you will never be discriminated against because of your race and that in itself feeds into the concept of white privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is arguably not the case at the BBC, however, which frequently advertises so-called training opportunities and \u201cinternships\u201d \u2014 which often pay more than a full-time job on the minimum wage \u2014 which white people and sometimes white men in particular are banned from applying for.<\/p>\n
