The top two doctors of the most populous province in Canada were caught in a hot microphone moment before their scheduled provincial COVID-19 press conference chatting to each other that they say \u201cwhatever\u201d the scriptwriters \u201cwrite down for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a rare moment caught on video between<\/a> the private conversation of two senior government officials this past Monday, Ontario\u2019s Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe said, \u201cI don’t know why I bring all these papers, I never look at them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just say whatever they write down for me,\u201d Yaffe then adds with a laugh to her voice.<\/p>\n

To this, Ontario’s top doctor and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams responds, \u201cThat’s funny. Yeah same.\u201d<\/p>\n

The candid moment went viral on social media and elicited immediate scorn from Independent Ontario MPP Randy Hillier.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr Yaffe \u2018I just say whatever they write for me\u2019. She sounds like every caucus & elected member, I\u2019ve met over 14 yr in office. Follow the orders, do as you\u2019re told; obedience not intellect keeps you in your privileged & well paid position, in politics or the bureaucracy #onpoli,\u201d wrote Hillier on<\/a> Twitter yesterday.<\/p>\n

Hillier then said in a later tweet that<\/a> eventually, secrets come out to the public spotlight.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is impossible to keep a secret or a lie, forever.\u00a0 There will always be a brief unexpected moment of candour & honesty,\u201d wrote Hillier.<\/p>\n

In a statement sent to media, Dr. Yaffe said that she was simply \u201cbantering\u201d with Williams before the press conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy comments overheard on a live microphone before Monday\u2019s 3 p.m. COVID-19 media update were my bantering with Dr. Williams,\u201d Yaffe said in her statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was referencing the fact that my communications team prep me for these updates with researched and vetted remarks. Of course, I do speak freely and have no notes for responding to questions from the media. I was also reflecting to Dr. Williams on why I carry around extra paperwork.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another tweet about the hot mic moment between the Ontario doctors, Hillier gave his take on who the \u201cthey\u201d are in Yaffe\u2019s comments<\/p>\n

\u201cMany people have asked, who are \u2018they\u2019 They are the unseen extra parliamentary power in politics. The lobbyist, pollsters, senior staff, party bagmen, & corporate donors, are who the elected members kow tow to. Yaffe & Williams know who \u2018they\u2019 are and so does @fordnation,\u201d commented Hillier<\/a> on Twitter.<\/p>\n

During their Monday press conference, Dr. Yaffe said the new Pfizer\/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine might not prevent infection, and that people still need to \u201cprotect themselves\u201d after getting the shot.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven when somebody’s vaccinated, they need to protect themselves and others from spreading the infection,\u201d said Yaffe.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Pfizer\/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was approved by Health Canada last week<\/a>, and provinces nationwide have already begun to administer it.<\/p>\n

It was\u00a0tested<\/a>, but not created, as reported by Children of God for Life, using the HEK-293 cell line, which was derived from a baby aborted decades ago.<\/p>\n

The Pfizer vaccine\u00a0must be stored<\/a>\u00a0at an extremely low temperature of -70 degrees Celsius, and there are other\u00a0concerns<\/a>\u00a0about its safety, especially when it comes to women and unknown effects on fertility.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Health Canada said that Canadians<\/a> who have allergies should not take the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, as it could cause severe allergic reactions.<\/p>\n

Last week, Ontario\u2019s Health Minister Christine Elliott suggested that Ontario<\/a> could create an \u201cimmunity passport\u201d as proof for having taken the COVID-19 vaccine. Without such a passport, one\u2019s ability to move freely could be limited.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s going to be really important for people to have [proof of COVID vaccination] for travel purposes, perhaps for work purposes, for going to theatres or cinemas or any other places where people will be in closer physical contact when we get through the worst of the pandemic,\u201d said Elliott to reporters.<\/a><\/p>\n

As for Williams, he previously said<\/a>\u00a0that proof of COVID-19 vaccination might be made mandatory for people to move around freely, however, he said that such a vaccine would not be mandatory.<\/p>\n

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said<\/a>\u00a0he will not make a COVID-19 vaccine mandatory in Ontario but will urge people to take it. Elliot also said it would be voluntary, but suggested people\u2019s ability to move freely could be limited should one choose to not get the vaccine.<\/p>\n
