The media has also represented Harris as an intersectional hero, trailblazing on behalf of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mic.com\/p\/netflixs-new-docu-series-cheer-celebrates-black-queer-athletes-21738537\">\u201cblack queer athletes.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last September, police arrested Harris for his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/jerry-harris-netflix-s-cheer-arrested-child-pornography-charge-n1240337\">aggressive grooming of young boys<\/a>, both over the internet and at cheerleading events. The FBI was compelled to act after the fed up parents of 13-year-old twins who were being abused by Harris <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2020-09-18\/cheer-star-jerry-harris-arrested-on-child-porn-charges-lawsuit\/12676564\">filed a civil lawsuit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1217997\/cheers-jerry-harris-now-facing-7-charges-in-child-pornography-case\">newest charges<\/a> stem from him admitting to investigators that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article247528125.html\">he had sodomized a 15-year-old boy<\/a> while working as a coach for Cheer Athletics in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Cheerleading has always been perceived as one of the most \u201cgay-friendly\u201d athletic activities. The lawsuit against Harris asserts that sexual abuse is rife in the sport and that there is no oversight or background checks done on men working with youth in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCheer\u201d was awarded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/cheer-plagued-controversy-wins-emmy-010603953.html\">several Emmys<\/a> after Harris was arrested and the full extent of his predatory behavior was known. For the TV and movie industry, the LGBT propaganda value of \u201cCheer\u201d appears to outweigh the negative publicity that often accompanies molesting children.
