If you are upset by the undeniable fact that our greatest scientific minds are failing in their battle against Covid-19, you should be relieved to learn that\u00a0the West\u2019s\u00a0greatest minds are momentarily occupied with a way more important battle: the war against antisemitism.<\/h5>\n
\u00a0The Jewish News Syndicate\u00a0<\/a><\/span>(JNS) reported a few days ago\u00a0that the Alfred\u00a0Landecker Foundation (Berlin) launched a new international \u2018Decoding Antisemitism\u2019 project to\u00a0stop hate online\u00a0using \u2018Artificial Intelligence. \u2019Apparently, the multi-national team comprised of \u2018discourse analysts, computational linguists and historians,\u2019 will develop a highly complex, AI-driven approach to identifying online antisemitism.<\/h5>\n
\u00a0The Jewish news outlet reports that studies have\u00a0shown that the majority of anti-Semitic defamation is expressed in implicit ways \u2013 for example through the use of creative codes such as \u2018juice\u2019 instead of \u2018Jews. \u2019The highly sophisticated algorithm is, presumably,\u00a0designed to scan the net continuously and attribute security alerts to every possible reference to \u2018juice.\u2019 However, if you see law enforcement agents surrounding your local grocery shop you should assume that\u00a0its owner may have issued a\u00a0complaint to the\u00a0manufacturer\u00a0about the integrity of his last orange juice delivery.<\/h5>\n
\u00a0The genius AI application will also spot certain conspiracy narratives or the reproduction of stereotypes, especially through unusual images. I guess that we are referring here to images of an un-named orange who kept his underwear on.\u00a0 It may as well be that the\u00a0AI application will be\u00a0sophisticated enough to trace the exact favourite fruit extract that drives the Open Society Institute.<\/h5>\n
\u00a0Issues to do with COVID-19 are particularly important as far as the new AI application is concerned due to \u201cthe rise in conspiracy myths accusing Jews of creating and spreading COVID-19.\u201d This is no doubt a demanding task for the state of art\u00a0application, as\u00a0most Jewish outlets actually openly admit a unique and concerning level of intimacy between Jews\/Israel and the virus. Back on 1st April, Zionist outlets were the first to admit that Jews were as much\u00a0as 8 times over-represented amongst Covid 19 death in Britain<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0at least in the first days of the epidemic.\u00a0\u00a0As early as the 3rd\u00a0of March, an Israeli company named\u00a0Migal<\/span><\/a>\u00a0was quick to announce that it has the vaccine for Covid-19. The new AI system will have to learn to turn a blind eye to the fact that\u00a0Jewish outlets openly\u00a0admit<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0that Orthodox Jews in New York and in Israel consciously and strategically let the virus spread in their communities as they truly believed (and for a good reason) in herd immunity.<\/h5>\n
\u00a0Dr. Andreas Eberhardt, CEO of the Alfred Landecker Foundation told the Jewish outlet that \u201cAntisemitism and hatred directed against minorities are putting the future of our open society in jeopardy. And the problem is only getting worse in the digital sphere. It\u2019s essential that we use innovative approaches \u2013 such as using AI \u2013 to tackle these issues head on.\u201d I guess that Dr.\u00a0Eberhardt is\u00a0correct and the next obvious question is why are the German academic and his institute \u00a0fighting antisemitism in particular rather than fighting hatred in general and universally?<\/h5>\n
\u00a0On my part, I\u00a0could save the Alfred Landecker Foundation a lot of energy and resources. Instead of adopting a Stasi doctrine,\u00a0scanning\u00a0the net,\u00a0spying\u00a0on our profiles for poetic expressions and \u2018juicy images,\u2019 just ask a few basic elementary questions:\u00a0why is antisemitism back\u00a0on the rise? What is it that Israel and its Lobby are doing that is so upsetting to a growing number of people? What is it that we cannot talk about and why?<\/h5>\n
\u00a0I actually believe that one old Zionist text from the late 19th\u00a0century answers all those questions. Bernard Lazare\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Antisemitism: Its History and Causes<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/a>attempted to figure out why Jewish history is an endless chain of tragedies and expulsions.<\/h5>\n
\u00a0Lazare believed that if Jews want to dominate their fate they must emancipate themselves from their choseness, that unique racially oriented sense of privilege and exceptionalism.\u00a0 Zionism in its early version, was for Lazare the way forward. Zionism at the time was distinguished by its total rejection and negation of the Diaspora Jewish culture and identity (Shlilat Ha-galut<\/span><\/em><\/a>). When Zionism was a spiritual metamorphic\u00a0aspiration, the\u00a0Jews were loved and admired, their Jewish state was even \u2018forgiven\u2019 for its colossal crimes against the indigenous people of Palestine (The Nakaba<\/a>)<\/span>. But when Israel drifted away from its idealistic roots, when it gradually became the \u2018Jewish State\u2019, the tolerance towards Israel\u2019s actions and its lobby also started to fade away.<\/h5>\n
\u00a0The Alfred Landecker\u00a0Foundation may do better using their historians, linguists\u00a0and computer scientists identifying this shift in the Jewish universe rather than treating the rest of us as suspected bigots.<\/h5>\n
