Click to enlarge<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The collaboration \u2014 which will also include Texas aerospace firm\u00a0xArc \u2014 was announced by\u00a0US Transportation Command&#8217;s\u00a0General Stephen Lyons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The first steps in the project will involve an assessment of the potential costs and challenges that will need to be overcome to deliver cargo globally in an hour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">&#8216;Think about the speed associated with that,&#8217; General Lyons said at the conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">&#8216;I can tell you SpaceX is moving very, very rapidly in this area. Click to enlarge<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">At present, each C-17 cargo aircraft cost the US military around\u00a0$218 million \u2014 it is unclear at present how this, and operating costs, would compare with the rocket.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Key to the realisation of a rocket-based cargo-carrying system is the ability to ensure safe and accurate landings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">&#8216;We send humans up into space safely, so sending cargo via orbit is not a problem. The challenge will be bringing it down,&#8217; Douglas Barrie \u2014 an aerospace expert from the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies \u2014 told <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/musk-rocket-would-go-from-us-to-the-middle-east-in-an-hour-xfznrdg9f\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the Times<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">&#8216;How would they bring it down, by parachute or controlled descent?
