As donations poured in, the suspect bought himself tailored suits and a new house.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Sir Maejor Page was arrested on Friday and charged with fraud and money laundering, with the FBI accusing him of misappropriating $200,000 in donations to his organization: <em>\u2018Black Lives Matter of Greater Atlanta.\u2019<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The organization was founded by Page &#8211; a well-known local activist &#8211; in 2016, but took in more than $466,000 in donations this June, July, and August, after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, set off a nationwide protest movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Page claimed that donations to his organization would be used <em>&#8220;for George Floyd,&#8221;<\/em> but he allegedly spent nearly half of them on food, entertainment, furniture, tailored suits, according to an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1V-6XImpjOlWG0nYVfGIMvv-8LgYiqcAQ\/view\">FBI affidavit<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in support of a criminal complaint against him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In addition, Page is accused of using the cash to buy himself a new home in Toledo, Ohio, last month.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The home at which law enforcement is raiding in regards to Sir Maejor Page was purchased by the activist organization Hi-Frequency Ohio.  That purchase happened last month.  Page is one of the leaders of that group <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YZCbkX8v1w\">https:\/\/t.co\/YZCbkX8v1w<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/13abc?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#13abc<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZsidUFko9d\">pic.twitter.com\/ZsidUFko9d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Shaun Hegarty (@Shaun_Hegarty) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Shaun_Hegarty\/status\/1309509314781032452?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 25, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u2018Black Lives Matter of Greater Atlanta\u2019 is not linked to the official \u2018Black Lives Matter Global Network,\u2019 and has been under FBI investigation since this April. It lost its tax-exempt status as a charity last year, after it failed to produce tax returns and expenditure files for the Inland Revenue Service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">However, it is not the only organization to piggyback off the \u2018Black Lives Matter\u2019 name for nefarious purposes. A California-registered organization known as \u2018The Black Lives Matter Foundation\u2019 railed <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/491992-millions-raised-unaffiliated-blm-foundation\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>millions of dollars<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in recent years, all while working to support police relations with the community. A noble goal perhaps, but not the goal of the BLM Global Network, which has called for the defunding of police departments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The finances of the real movement have also been called into question. Between 2017 and 2019, the Black Lives Matter Global Network <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativedailynews.com\/2020\/06\/follow-the-money-national-arm-of-black-lives-matter-spent-millions-on-travel-and-consultants-financial-statements-show\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>spent<\/strong><\/span><\/a> only six percent of its donations on its local chapters and community organizations.
