Peter Ford, former UK Ambassador to Syria, responds to the alarmist \u00a0report partially penned by infamous hysteria creator, Neil Ferguson.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cImperial College have produced a study (linked here<\/strong><\/span><\/a>) purporting to \u00a0show that Damascus has far more COVID 19 deaths than anywhere on the \u00a0planet, and that the epidemic has peaked there. The tsunami passed \u00a0virtually unnoticed because of Syrian official under-reporting, \u00a0allegedly.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Guardian<\/strong><\/span><\/a> \u00a0point to this report in the context of a wider account of a bombshell \u00a0briefing to Parliament by an expert from the London School of Hygiene \u00a0and Tropical Medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n

By implication the briefing tends to blow out of the water several tenets of establishment covid theory:-<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Places in Africa and the Middle East such as Sudan and Yemen escaped relatively unscathed despite (or because of) not taking many \u00a0lockdown measures-<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Levels of herd immunity appear to have been attained-<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Previous Coronavirus infections appear to have conferred high levels of protection-<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. The pandemic is virtually over in these areas- low levels of testing have obviously not hampered early recovery<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u2018Confounding\u2019 is the word used to describe experts\u2019 description \u00a0of these findings, which evokes a delightful picture of the great WHO \u00a0panjandrums et al scratching their heads at being at last rumbled.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The Syria report is even more odd. Extrapolating from death \u00a0statistics for a single week at the end of August the authors, among \u00a0them the famous Neil Ferguson, conclude that the official Covid death \u00a0count for Damascus Governorate represented only about 1.25% of actual \u00a0deaths. Accordingly the authors reckon there have been about 4,340 \u00a0deaths in Damascus Governorate (estimated population 2.4 million).<\/span><\/p>\n

    If true, this would mean that Damascus had a deaths per one million \u00a0rate of 1,850. That is more than double London\u2019s rate of about 765 \u00a0(6,885 deaths with a population of about 9 million). Peru, which has the \u00a0highest death toll in world, scores 929 per million.<\/span><\/p>\n

    So to find such jaw-dropping incidence in Damascus is odd, to say the least, when the median age in Syria is 24 and when we know that covid 19 victims are predominantly elderly. And when the Guardian is reporting \u00a0at the same time that countries comparable to Syria like Yemen and \u00a0Sudan have escaped relatively unscathed.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The authors do not address these anomalies. Why would they when \u00a0among their funders we find the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and \u00a0among the contributors to the study \u2013 a prominent Syrian oppositionist \u00a0(Rim Turkmani)? Could the instigators of the study possibly have been \u00a0looking to concoct evidence that\u00a0 the government of Syria was hiding the \u00a0extent of Covid\u2019s spread in the country?<\/span><\/p>\n
