The problem, in the case of one Nashville, Tennessee father, is how far the propaganda is going these days \u2014 particularly in the name of \u201canti-racism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Grant Benson is the founder of Breaking 911, better known as a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Breaking911\">Twitter account<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0but which also has a\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/\">website<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. According to a report Benson wrote on his Twitter account and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/the-disturbing-self-hate-that-is-taught-in-a-2nd-grade-english-class-opinion\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>his website<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, his daughter\u2019s second-grade syllabus includes several disturbing new books, including one titled \u201cSeparate Is Never Equal\u201d about a young Latina who integrated schools in Southern California.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">First, though, he lambasted the distance learning program in Nashville, Tennessee.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My daughter just started second grade <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MetroSchools?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MetroSchools<\/a>. She was the child at the center of the landmark 1947 case, Mendez vs. Westminster, in which her parents and neighbors fought against segregated education for children of Mexican descent in southern California, a case that banned segregation in California public schools and paved the way for the national ban on segregated schools in Brown vs. Board of Education seven years later,\u201d Benson wrote in the Aug. 16 piece.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cWhat an inspiring and little-known piece of history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cYet, when I read the children\u2019s book by Tonatiuh, I did not find it appropriate for my 7-year-old daughter to read. Why? My wife and I have raised our children to believe that all people are equal. We have also taught them about racism and that there was a dark time in America when people were not equal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cThis book struck me as teaching my child that all white people are racist. More troubling than that, the book seems to insinuate to children of color that all white people are racist or against them in some way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">He would include a bit from the book, which makes it clear just\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/smithsonian-targets-whiteness-lists-issues-like-rational-thinking-self-reliance-problematic\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>how problematic<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0it is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cSylvia had on her black shoes. They were shiny-new. Her hair was perfectly parted in two long trenzas. It was her first day at Westminster school. The halls were crowded with students. She was looking for her locker when a young white boy pointed at her and yelled, \u2018Go back to the Mexican school! You don\u2019t belong here!\u2019\u201d it read.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cNow, this may have actually happened to Ms. Mendez. I do not know,\u201d Benson wrote. \u201cBut what is this teaching my child, who has known nothing but love and tolerance toward others her entire life?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Benson did a bit more research on Tonatiuh and found\u00a0 information about him from an article about from the University of\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pittwire.pitt.edu\/news\/how-facebook-post-sparked-anti-racist-book-drive\">Pittsburgh\u2019s PittWire<\/a><\/strong><\/span>: \u201cHow a Facebook Post Sparked an Anti-racist Book Drive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The article concerned a researcher named Jennifer Iriti trying to compile a list of \u201canti-racist\u201d children\u2019s books.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Iriti described a conversation she had with a woman named Celina Farabaugh, a resident of South Fayette, Pennsylvania.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201c\u2019I had been reading quite a bit about ways to be an anti-racist, and one of the suggestions I read was to donate an anti-racist book to a teacher,\u2019 said Farabaugh. \u2018So, when Jen posted a list of suggested books, I felt called to take this small step.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cHer first donation: \u2018Separate is Never Equal,\u2019 by Duncan Tonatiuh, to a teacher in the Keystone Oaks School District, located about 10 miles from downtown Pittsburgh.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Mexican kids were sent away and forced to sit in the dirt with flies around them and an electric fence that shocked them because white people are bad. <\/p>\n<p>This is NOT a civil rights lesson. <\/p>\n<p>This is self-hate &amp; fake white privilege. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fPU24odazO\">pic.twitter.com\/fPU24odazO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; GrantB911 (@GrantB911) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GrantB911\/status\/1294398956198416384?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 14, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">This isn\u2019t the kind of thing that builds up confidence of any parents in their children\u2019s education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">How another school district in Tennessee is handling online learning isn\u2019t helping. An Aug. 15 report from the Tennessee Star, an online newspaper in the Volunteer State, stated that Rutherford County Schools, southeast of Nashville, wanted parents to agree not to observe their child\u2019s instruction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cRCS strives to present these opportunities in a secure format that protects student privacy to the greatest extent possible, however because these meetings will occur virtually RCS is limited in its ability to fully control certain factors such as non-student observers that may be present in the home of a student participating in the virtual meeting,\u201d a form sent to parents stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cRCS strongly discourages non student observation of online meetings due to the potential of confidential information about a student being revealed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Parents were are warned a \u201cviolation of this agreement may result in RCS removing my child from the virtual meeting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The school district eventually backed down from the demand that parents not monitor their children\u2019s lessons, as\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/tennessee-parents-waiver-eavesdropping-online-lessons\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Fox News reported Saturday<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, but still insisted that there be no recording of online classes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cWe are aware of the concern that has been raised about this distance-learning letter that was sent to parents. The intent was not to prevent parents from being involved with their children during distance learning, but it was intended to protect the academic privacy of other students in the classroom who are visible during certain virtual class sessions,\u201d RCS spokesman James Evans said in a statement to the Tennessee Star.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cWe have issued new guidance to principals that parents can assist their children during virtual group lessons with permission of the instructor but should refrain from sharing or recording any information about other students in the classroom.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">This is just a report, mind you, from this father. We could not confirm on Sunday that these books are being used or exactly how widespread the use might be, but there\u2019s clearly plenty for parents to be concerned about when it comes to instruction that claims to be geared toward \u201canti-racism\u201d teachings but appears to be simply fostering a kind of racism liberals approve of \u2014 the kind that implicates all whites currently alive in the sins of the past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">This father just pulled his daughter out of the program.
