A pro-Israel lobbyist in Scotland may lose his teaching job over a series of anti-Semitic posts he has admitted making.<\/span><\/p>\n

Edward Sutherland is being investigated by the Scottish teaching regulator, The Daily Record<\/em> reported on Sunday<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sutherland is head of religious and moral education at the Belmont Academy in Ayr.<\/span><\/p>\n

A leading figure in the Confederation of Friends of Israel, Sutherland created a fake Facebook profile and used it to post anti-Semitism online.<\/span><\/p>\n

Using the profile, he posed as a Palestine solidarity activist.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the invented persona \u201cStevie Harrison,\u201d Sutherland is alleged to have attacked a pro-Israel Jewish lawyer by posting in 2018 that his \u201cbig nose is out out joint.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Screenshots released by the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign<\/a><\/strong><\/span> suggest that the lawyer \u2013 Matthew Berlow \u2013 may even have been in on the deception.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTypical SPSC behaviour. Criminal,\u201d Berlow replied to one of the fraudulent postings by \u201cHarrison.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Berlow responded in an email to The Electronic Intifada that it was \u201cnot my intention to smear the SPSC.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He also claimed that Sutherland\u2019s \u201cposts were not anti Semitic\u201d according to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance\u2019s defintion<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bogus<\/a> \u201cworking defintion\u201d of anti-Semitism has been pushed by Israel and pro-Israel groups<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Could lose job<\/h2>\n

But Sutherland\u2019s anti-Palestinian comrades are standing by him: \u201cWe\u2019re worried that he might end up losing his job,\u201d Sammy Stein, a fellow Confederation of Friends of Israel activist told The Daily Record<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stein said that \u201cEd is no anti-Semite. In fact, he\u2019s a friend of Israel. He helps man our stall in Glasgow every Saturday.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign activist Mick Napier responded<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to the news saying it was \u201ca disgrace\u201d that Sutherland\u2019s group enjoys charitable status<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Confederation of Friends of Israel has \u201can extensive record of publishing racist materials\u201d he wrote. \u201cThe Scottish body charged with overseeing charities should revoke COFIS\u2019 charitable status immediately,\u201d Napier said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Confederation of Friends of Israel did not reply to a request for comment. After publication of this article, Belmont Academy declined to comment, but passed the buck to South Ayrshire Council \u2013 who also declined to comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is far from the first time Israeli and pro-Israeli groups have fabricated anti-Semitism<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2016 the Mossad-linked<\/strong><\/span><\/a> Israeli law firm Shurat HaDin admitted posting a series<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of violently anti-Semitic comments to Facebook in order to frame Palestinians and solidarity activists.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019, an investigation by The Electronic Intifada exposed a network of fake Twitter trolls systematically posting violent anti-Semitism<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in order to frame Jeremy Corbyn\u2019s Labour Party and the Muslim community. The culprits remain unknown.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being a \u201cfriend of Israel\u201d in no way excludes one from the charge of anti-Semitism. On the contrary, some of the most important Zionists in history have also held vile anti-Jewish attitudes<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

And some of the world\u2019s worst contemporary anti-Semites<\/strong><\/span><\/a> are militantly pro-Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n
