{"id":211587,"date":"2020-08-07T07:20:02","date_gmt":"2020-08-07T07:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=211587"},"modified":"2020-08-09T08:17:23","modified_gmt":"2020-08-09T08:17:23","slug":"authors-of-largest-gender-transition-study-forced-to-admit-the-uncomfortable-truth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=211587","title":{"rendered":"Authors of Largest Gender &#8216;Transition&#8217; Study Forced To Admit the Uncomfortable Truth"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Your Destination Now \u2013 Aug 6, 2020<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">A 2019 study that painted a rosy picture of the mental health benefits for individuals who undergo gender reassignment surgery was wrong, its authors have said in a published correction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The correction, published by the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/ajp.psychiatryonline.org\/doi\/10.1176\/appi.ajp.2020.1778correction\">American Journal of Psychiatry<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, concluded that after reviewing how the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/ajp.psychiatryonline.org\/doi\/10.1176\/appi.ajp.2019.19010080\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>original study\u2019s numbers<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0were crunched, \u201cthe conclusion that \u2018the longitudinal association between gender-affirming surgery and lower use of mental health treatment lends support to the decision to provide gender-affirming surgeries to transgender individuals who seek them\u2019 is too strong.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In an Op-Ed published by the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/gender\/commentary\/transitioning-procedures-dont-help-mental-health-largest-dataset-shows\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Heritage Foundation<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, Ryan T. Anderson wrote that the study\u2019s authors now admit that \u201cthe results demonstrated no advantage of surgery in relation to subsequent mood or anxiety disorder-related health care.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Most of the study\u2019s information is behind a paywall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Anderson also noted that life most certainly did not improve for those who received the treatment in at least one respect, quoting the study\u2019s authors as now claiming that \u201cindividuals diagnosed with gender incongruence who had received gender-affirming surgery were more likely to be treated for anxiety disorders compared with individuals diagnosed with gender incongruence who had not received gender-affirming surgery.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The correction is significant because when the study came out, it was ballyhooed to the skies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cSex-change operations yield long-term mental health benefits for transgender people,\u201d\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-transgender\/sex-change-operations-yield-long-term-mental-health-benefits-for-transgender-people-idUSKBN1XI2GN\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Reuters<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0headlined its report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The wire service also included a comment from Dr. Joshua Safer, executive director at Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery in New York City, who had written, \u201cIf anything, the study likely under-reports mental health benefits of medical and surgical care for transgender individuals.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Others had been less kind, and the authors eventually went back to re-evaluate their work and publish the correction.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Very interesting. So that they wanted the study to say a certain thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cObviously, we don\u2019t know in this particular instance whether this was just an honest mistake or if this was motivated research, motivated reasoning to lead to a certain conclusion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The study\u2019s fawning reception and the lack of major\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/yale-epidemiology-professor-dismantles-cnn-anchors-ludicrous-hydroxychloroquine-attack\/\">establishment media<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0reporting on the correction \u201cdoes show that the cultural moment in which we\u2019re living suggests that there\u2019s only one allowed conclusion to this question,\u201d Anderson said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cAnd the only allowed conclusion is that transition is the best solution. The biggest data set now shows and that\u2019s what this study uses, the biggest data set shows that there\u2019s no benefits, psychological benefits to patients of hormonal and surgical transition,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In his Op-Ed, Anderson cited Mark Regnerus, a\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/prominent-conservative-professor-found-dead-home\/\">professor<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0of sociology at the University of Texas at Austin, who raised questions about the numbers and was able to show that what appeared at first glance to be broad-based conclusions were in fact based on the experiences of three individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The authors of the study wrote that they had analyzed health records of about 9.7 million\u00a0Swedes\u00a0(the largest dataset in such a study) and found 2,679 diagnosed with \u201cgender incongruence\u201d between 2005 and 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Of those, about 1,000 received gender reassignment surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The initial study had claimed that for people who had received treatment, odds of being treated for mood and anxiety disorders dropped by 8 percent every year after the surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">With the study debunked, Anderson concluded that \u201cgender dysphoria is a serious condition. People who experience a gender identity conflict should be treated with respect and compassion. And they deserve to know the truth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cNow the world\u2019s largest relevant dataset reveals hormones and surgeries don\u2019t bring wholeness and happiness.
