A new Yahoo News\/YouGov poll<\/a><\/span>\u00a0has found that just 42 percent of Americans say they plan to get a coronavirus vaccine when it becomes available.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The figure represents an all time low, having fallen from\u00a055 percent in early May, 50 percent in late May, and 46 percent in July.<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked \u201cIf and when a coronavirus vaccine becomes available, will you get vaccinated?\u201d many fewer Americans across the political spectrum answered in the affirmative.<\/span><\/p>\n

Only a majority of Democrats now plan to get vaccinated, with 55% saying they will still take the jab.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among Republicans, only 37% say they are willing to get vaccinated, with even fewer independents, 34%, willing to take the vaccine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Assistant professor of biostatistics at the University of Florida\u00a0Natalie Dean has noted \u201cWhy should we expect Americans to agree to a vaccine before one is even available?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Writing recently in the New York Times<\/strong><\/span>,<\/a>\u00a0Dean noted \u201cI\u2019m a vaccine researcher, and even I would place myself in the \u2018not sure\u2019 bucket.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we have right now is a collection of animal data<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, immune response data and safety data based on early trials and from similar vaccines for other diseases. The evidence that would convince me to get a COVID-19 vaccine, or to recommend that my loved ones get vaccinated, does not yet exist.\u201d Dean asserted.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said that it is \u201crealistic\u201d to expect a coronavirus vaccine\u00a0in the fall, and that it is\u00a0\u201cvery credible\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to expect \u201ctens of millions of doses\u201d to become available by the end of the year, and \u201chundreds of millions\u201d by 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have seen, under President Trump\u2019s leadership, the most historic advances in the development of vaccines we have ever seen in human history,\u201d Azar claimed in an interview with\u00a0Fox News.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States now has six vaccines that we have placed major investments in. Four of them have already reported out positive phase one clinical trial results. And two of them are already in the advanced final phase three studies. Others will advance there soon.\u201d\u00a0Azar added.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really just President Trump has marshaled the whole of the U.S. government and our biopharmaceutical industry. It\u2019s incredible,\u201d Azar proclaimed.<\/span><\/p>\n
