<\/a><\/p>\nRecently, leading\u00a0anti-rationalist<\/em>\u00a0Dominic Lawson had his\u00a0COVID 19 vaccine promotion pamphlet<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>published by the Daily Mail with the headline\u00a0\u201cTo win the war on Covid-19 we must inoculate Britain against the crazy anti-vaxxers.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Like many\u00a0anti-rationalists<\/em>\u00a0Dominic seems to struggle with complex issues.<\/span><\/p>\n Certainly questioning anything they are told is unthinkable. Repeating information is where it\u2019s at for the\u00a0anti-rationalists<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n Anti-rationalists<\/em>\u00a0are incapable of independent thought and need to be told what to believe by someone, some body or organisation, they consider to be important. They call these carefully selected important people and groups\u00a0\u201creliable sources.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n It isn\u2019t entirely clear what constitutes a\u00a0reliable source<\/em>\u00a0for the\u00a0anti-rationalist<\/em>\u00a0but they appear to range from globalist think tanks and appointed world health authority officials, to mainstream media hacks, multinational corporation spokespersons, the right scientists, fact checkers and government representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n For many\u00a0anti-rationalists<\/em>\u00a0Dominic is one of those reliable sources. However, there is a pecking order and Dominic probably has his own favourite goto\u2019s for information, though presumably\u00a0Richard Tomlinson and Boris Johnson<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0aren\u2019t among them.<\/span><\/p>\n Given that virtually nothing he says in his article is plausible, let alone accurate, it is clear that veracity doesn\u2019t have much to do with reliability for the\u00a0anti-rationalists.<\/em>\u00a0If they can\u2019t cherry pick the information they need to confirm their opinions, they just make it up.<\/span><\/p>\n Dominic get\u2019s off to a flyer:<\/span><\/p>\n There is only one sure way to deal with the\u00a0coronavirus which has plunged the world\u2019s economy into recession and killed (so far) more than half a million people. A vaccine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The specific novel strain of coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2 may cause the associated respiratory syndrome of COVID 19. While Dominic doesn\u2019t bother making this distinction, it is important to do so. Otherwise, he could be suggesting that half a million people have been killed by the common cold, which is what most coronavirus strains are.<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m sure Dominic knows this isn\u2019t just semantics. Something which so called\u00a0fact checkers<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the kind of reliable sources\u00a0anti-rationalists<\/em>\u00a0prefer, have been keen to highlight.<\/span><\/p>\n When a\u00a02020 study by Pentagon scientists<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0of flu vaccinated U.S. military personnel found that\u00a0vaccine interference<\/em>\u00a0increased the subjects risk of contracting coronavirus by 36%, the inaccurately named\u00a0FactCheck<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>were quick to point out that this didn\u2019t specifically mean SARS-CoV-2. They said the vaccine study only showed an increased risk for coronavirus and that this is not the same as SARS-CoV-2. Despite Dominic\u2019s slapdash approach, on this occasion, precision was important for the\u00a0anti-rationalists<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n The study was of service men and women inoculated between 2017 \u2013 2019. This was before SARS-CoV-2 was discovered. This also means the Pentagon team weren\u2019t testing for SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility. SARS-CoV-2 is a coronavirus, so FactCheck\u2019s categorical statement that there is\u00a0\u201cno evidence\u201d<\/em>\u00a0that the flu vaccine increases the risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2 is false. There is\u00a0inconclusive<\/em>\u00a0evidence that this could be the case. FactCheck have got their facts wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n Fact Checking: The diligent process of ignoring evidence.<\/p><\/div>\n Evidence of this potential risk was also found in\u00a0the paper by scientists<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0from the University of Hong Kong who discovered almost a five-fold increase in susceptibility to non influenza respiratory viruses, including coronavirus, among flu vaccinated children.<\/span><\/p>\n Anti-rationalists<\/em>\u00a0will be quick to deny the existence of this science because that\u2019s what they do whenever it doesn\u2019t\u00a0\u201cfit\u201d<\/em>\u00a0with their articles of faith.<\/span><\/p>\n Given that we know that COVID 19 is only a significant threat to the older people with comorbidities, and that this is the section of the population most extensively vaccinated with flu vaccines, the correlation and the existing scientific evidence would seem to warrant further investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n Something the\u00a0anti-vaxxers<\/em>\u00a0at the\u00a0British Medical Journal<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0are willing to contemplate.<\/span><\/p>\n However, rather than call for urgent research to establish if vaccine interference from the flu shot could increase SARS-CoV-2 risks, Facebook\u2019s\u00a0anti-rationalist<\/em>\u00a0fact checking partners<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>preferred instead to deny everything and suggest that\u00a0vaccine interference<\/em>\u00a0isn\u2019t a thing.<\/span><\/p>\n A quick search of Google Scholar\u00a0reveals hundreds of papers<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>and scientific articles discussing vaccine interference. Even the most cursory independent research is not something the\u00a0anti-rationalists<\/em>\u00a0like to do.<\/span><\/p>\n A virus has very little to say about fiscal or monetary policy. However, government\u2019s do. Dominic\u2019s belief that a virus has caused global economic collapse is very silly. Of course it hasn\u2019t, the political response to claims about a virus<\/em> has.<\/span><\/p>\n Thus far\u00a0this virus has supposedly affected<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0about 0.15% of the global population and allegedly killed 0.007%. Though it seems, in the UK at least, there is reasonable doubt about the figures. Oxford University\u00a0Centre for Evidence Based Medicine<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(CEBM) reports that one of the main sources of mortality statistics in the UK, Public health England (PHE), have considerably overestimated deaths from COVID 19.<\/span><\/p>\n According to the World Health Organisation, if we accept the figures they report, COVID 19 is slightly less dangerous than a bad, though relatively common,\u00a0seasonal influenza<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. Quite why COVID 19 necessitates plunging\u00a0\u201cthe world\u2019s economy into recession,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0while flu doesn\u2019t, is difficult to say. Still, Dominic thinks this all makes perfect sense, so that should be more than enough for his\u00a0anti-rationalist<\/em>\u00a0followers.<\/span><\/p>\n I say\u00a0\u201callegedly killed\u201d<\/em>\u00a0because there is very little evidence that these people died\u00a0\u201cof\u201d<\/em>\u00a0COVID 19. The vast majority of people who sadly died\u00a0\u201cwith\u201d<\/em>\u00a0COVID 19 were older people approaching, or already receiving, end of life care.<\/span><\/p>\n No one, including Dominic, knows how many of the people who died\u00a0with<\/em>\u00a0COVID 19 died\u00a0of<\/em>\u00a0COVID 19. Nor do we have much hope of ever finding out because the\u00a0death registration process<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>for COVID 19 produces a new from of mortality statistic which is almost perfectly useless.<\/span><\/p>\n This makes no difference to the\u00a0anti-rationalists\u00a0<\/em>and they are willing to report that the virus has killed\u00a0\u201cmore than half a million people\u201d<\/em>\u00a0because that is what they have been told to think by their\u00a0reliable sources<\/em>. It is almost certainly a wildly inaccurate claim, but that\u2019s no reason not to demand everyone else unquestioningly believe it in the myopic world of the\u00a0anti-rationalists<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\nAccept Everything And Question Nothing<\/h2>\n
