President Trump declined to say whether he will accept the results of the November election, claiming without evidence that mail-in voting due to the coronavirus<\/strong><\/span><\/a> pandemic could \u201crig\u201d the outcome.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a wide-ranging interview with \u201cFox News Sunday\u201d host Chris Wallace, the president also continued to play down the severity of the coronavirus crisis in the country, declined to say whether he is offended by the Confederate flag and dismissed polls showing him trailing former vice president Joe Biden<\/strong><\/span><\/a> by a significant margin.<\/span><\/p>\n

The interview comes as the 2020 campaign has been upended by the pandemic, which has claimed more than 137,000 lives<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in the United States. Most in-person events have been canceled, and both political parties are planning to hold smaller-scale conventions to limit the spread of the virus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Several states switched to primarily vote-by-mail primaries earlier this year, and the U.S. Postal Service is bracing for an onslaught of mail-in ballots this fall<\/strong><\/span><\/a> as states and cities seek alternatives to in-person voting.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the \u201cFox News Sunday\u201d interview, Wallace asked Trump whether he considers himself a \u201cgracious\u201d loser.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump replied that he doesn\u2019t like to lose, then added: \u201cIt depends. I think mail-in voting is going to rig the election. I really do.\u201d Trump\u2019s comment echoed unfounded claims he has made in recent weeks that mail-in voting is susceptible to widespread fraud.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAre you suggesting that you might not accept the results of the election?\u201d Wallace asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump responded, \u201cNo. I have to see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Later in the interview, pressed on whether he will accept the results of the November election, Trump again declined to say.<\/span><\/p>\n
