<\/a><\/p>\nLeft-wing billionaire George Soros has indicated that the coronavirus pandemic paves the way for societal changes previously thought impossible, calling it \u201cthe crisis of my lifetime.\u201d Soros had lived through the Second World War as a youth.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cEven before the pandemic hit, I realized that we were in a revolutionary moment where what would be impossible or even inconceivable in normal times had become not only possible, but probably absolutely necessary,\u201d he said during an interview<\/a><\/strong><\/span> on May 11.<\/span><\/p>\n Soros also said that \u201cEurope is facing several existential dangers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n He was \u201cparticularly concerned about the survival of the EU because it is an incomplete union.\u201d While, according to the Hungarian-born billionaire, the European Union was \u201cin the process of being created,\u201d that process \u201cwas never completed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Thus, Soros said the EU was \u201cexceptionally vulnerable \u2013 more vulnerable than the US not just because it is an incomplete union but also because it is based on the rule of law.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Soros also commented on a recent conflict between Germany and the EU. Germany\u2019s highest court had ruled<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>on May 5 that one of the EU\u2019s Court of Justice decisions regarding policies of the European Central Bank (ECB) was not legally binding. In turn, the European Court of Justice asserted<\/strong><\/span><\/a> that it alone had jurisdiction over the ECB.<\/span><\/p>\n In the interview, Soros sided with the EU. \u201cWhen Germany joined the EU, it committed itself to abide by European law,\u201d he argued.<\/span><\/p>\n He voiced his fears that countries like Poland or Hungary might become more independent of the EU, if also \u201cthe German court can question the decisions of the European Court of Justice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Soros asked, \u201cCan Hungary and Poland decide whether they follow European law or their own courts \u2013 whose legitimacy the EU has questioned? That question goes to the very heart of the EU, which is built on the rule of law.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cPoland has immediately risen to the occasion and asserted the supremacy of its government-controlled courts over European law. In Hungary, Viktor Orb\u00e1n has already used the COVID-19 emergency and a captured parliament to appoint himself dictator,\u201d Soros claimed.<\/span><\/p>\n The last election took place in 2018, and the next one is scheduled for 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n Additionally, a new poll<\/a><\/strong><\/span> has shown that the majority of Hungarians (54 percent) seem to support the measures of the Orb\u00e1n administration and would vote for him.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe ruling poses a threat that could destroy the European Union as an institution based on the rule of law, precisely because it was delivered by the German constitutional court, which is the most highly respected institution in Germany,\u201d Soros emphasized.<\/span><\/p>\n In the course of the interview, Soros again talked about his idea of having the EU issue perpetual bonds, which he called Consols. With the money created through Consols, he would finance the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cEuropean Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says that Europe needs about \u20ac1 trillion ($1.1 trillion) to fight this pandemic, and she should have added another \u20ac1 trillion for climate change,\u201d according to Soros.<\/span><\/p>\n He said Consols \u201cshould never be issued in normal times, but are ideal right now.\u201d However, he did not explain why the financial instrument is not appropriate for \u201cnormal times,\u201d even though he himself characterized it as a perpetual bond.<\/span><\/p>\n In the course of the interview, Soros briefly talked about President Donald Trump, accusing him of wanting \u201cto be a dictator. But he cannot be one because there is a constitution in the United States that people still respect.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n While the constitution, according to Soros, \u201cwill prevent him from doing certain things,\u201d that does not prohibit the President from trying, \u201cbecause he is literally fighting for his life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI will also say that I have put my faith in Trump to destroy himself, and he has exceeded my wildest expectations,\u201d Soros added.<\/span><\/p>\n Soros is a prolific financier<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of left-wing causes<\/a><\/strong><\/span> throughout the United States and around the world, including abortion, euthanasia, population control, same-sex \u201cmarriage,\u201d transgenderism, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n His Open Society Foundations spend almost $1 billion annually in 100 different countries, including $150 million per year funding the left-wing American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the leading abortion company Planned Parenthood, and other liberal groups. He invested<\/strong><\/span><\/a> $5.1 million in a super PAC dedicated to funding groups working against Trump\u2019s re-election; and is an aggressive supporter<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>of the European Union who has spent money in hopes of influencing the elections of multiple European nations.<\/span><\/p>\n
