text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Israel\/status\/1254787389614145537?s=20\">describes<\/a><\/strong><\/span> as \u201cIsraelis killed in combat and in terrorist attacks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The Israeli leaders marking the occasion \u2013 this year with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; \u200f\u200e\u0623\u0648\u0631\u064a \u062c\u0628\u0639\u0627\u062a\u064a Ori Givati (@origivati) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/origivati\/status\/1255036315143372804?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 28, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Early on the morning of 3 July 2015, Shomer shot dead <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/tags\/muhammad-al-kasbeh\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Muhammad Sami Ali al-Kasbeh<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, a 17-year-old resident of Qalandiya refugee camp, near Qalandiya checkpoint in the occupied West Bank.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dci-palestine.org\/senior_israeli_military_officer_kills_palestinian_teen_near_qalandia\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>According<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/tags\/defence-children-international-palestine-section\">Defence for Children International Palestine<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the boy had earlier been among a group of Palestinians prevented by Israeli forces from entering occupied Jerusalem to join Ramadan prayers at al-Aqsa mosque.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Then, when an Israeli military vehicle passed through the area, Muhammad threw a stone at it and ran away, the human rights group <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/tags\/al-haq-0\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Al-Haq<\/strong><\/span><\/a> reported <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/topics\/right-to-life-and-body-integrity\/940-al-haq-field-investigations-refutes-the-israeli-narrative-concerning-the-killing-of-17-year-old-muhammad-al-kassba\">in its investigation<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Two Israeli soldiers then stepped out of the vehicle. One, Colonel Shomer, opened fire on Muhammad. The teenager was hit by at least three bullets in the back, face and torso.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The fact that he was shot in the head is \u201can indication of a wilful killing,\u201d Al-Haq added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Israel claimed that the shooting was justified because the soldiers\u2019 lives were in danger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">But <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/blogs\/ali-abunimah\/video-confirms-palestinian-teen-was-fleeing-israeli-killed-him\">s<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>ecurity camera video<\/strong><\/span><\/a> obtained by the human rights group B\u2019Tselem confirmed that Shomer chased al-Kasbeh down and shot him as he ran away, effectively executing him on the spot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The gunman \u201capproached Muhammad\u2019s body after he had fallen on the ground, looked at it, and then returned to the military vehicle without providing any assistance,\u201d Al-Haq stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cThe multiple gunshots that struck the teen in the face and upper part of his body at close distance suggest the military commander had fired to kill rather than subdue him,\u201d Ayed Abu Eqtaish, a program director with Defense for Children International Palestine, stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">He added that the slaying showed \u201ca complete disregard for human life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The Israeli military <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/blogs\/charlotte-silver\/israel-excuses-killing-fleeing-palestinian-teen-professional-mistake\">went through the motions<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of a self-investigation and closed the case without taking any action against Shomer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The army called his slaying of the teenager a \u201cprofessional mistake.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">B\u2019Tselem <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.btselem.org\/press_releases\/20160410_muhammad_ali_qusbah_case_closed\">called<\/a><\/strong><\/span> the dismissal of the case \u201can integral part of the whitewash mechanism which is Israel\u2019s military investigative system.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In 2018, Shomer was given a major <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/israel-news\/.premium-idf-officer-who-killed-stone-throwing-palestinian-tapped-for-top-post-1.6358286\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>promotion<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to command the Israeli army\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/tags\/nahal-brigade\">Nahal Brigade<\/a><\/strong><\/span> \u2013 confirmation of the systematic impunity and incentives Israelis are given for killing Palestinians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Al-Haq pointed out that two of Muhammad\u2019s brothers, Yasser, 11 and Samer, 15, were also killed as children by Israeli occupation forces in 2001 and 2002, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Muhammad was just 3 years old when his brothers were killed fewer than 40 days apart during the second intifada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cThe loss of his brothers would profoundly shape Muhammad\u2019s life and permanently haunt his parents,\u201d The Electronic Intifada <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/content\/our-son-died-confronting-occupation-teens-family-insist\/14667\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>reported in 2015<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">They are the victims of terrorism, slain by the likes of Shomer, who must be remembered<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/blogs\/ali-abunimah\/killer-fleeing-teen-leads-israel-memorial-prayer\">Source <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Israel\u2019s recent Memorial Day service was led in prayer by Col.
