Michael Jones \u2013 Culture Wars April 15, 2020<\/strong><\/h1>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KAIa21OnHSg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n&#8212;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In an article which appeared on the<em> First Things <\/em>website, entitled <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.firstthings.com\/web-exclusives\/2020\/04\/epidemic-danger-and-catholic-sacraments\">\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Epidemic Danger and Catholic Sacraments<\/strong><\/span>,\u201d<\/a> Rev. Thomas Joseph White denounced anyone who had doubts about the state\u2019s quarantine measures as exhibiting \u201ca misbegotten exaggerated libertarianism,\u201d as well as \u201cexaggerated individualism, magical thinking that ignores scientific evidence, and religiously rationalized narcissism.\u201d White then claims that his position is \u201cbased on a basic given of natural law. The state has a fundamental obligation to protect human life, especially when it is gravely threatened\u201d as long as it follows \u201cboth traditional, time-tested procedure and proven scientific advice.\u201d Anyone who claims that public health measures may impede \u201ccivic flourishing\u201d is \u201cscientifically unrealistic and ethically irresponsible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">But for the fact that <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/vdare.com\/articles\/patrick-j-buchanan-what-price-victory-in-the-coronavirus-war\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Buchanan\u2019s column<\/strong><\/span><\/a> appeared five days after his article, Father White\u2019s rebuke could have been aimed at Pat Buchanan, who wrote:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cFor each American lost to the pandemic, 1,000 Americans have lost their jobs because of conscious and deliberate decisions of the president and 50 governors. Some 60,000 citizens, we are told, will likely be lost in this pandemic. Are we prepared to accept 60 million unemployed to &#8220;mitigate&#8221; those losses? . . . While the daily loss of Americans to the virus appears to be leveling off, one-third of the way to that 60,000 figure, the other losses from the social and economic devastation we have invited upon ourselves have just begun to mount and will continue far longer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Is it \u201cethically irresponsible\u201d to bring up a point like this?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Continues \u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/culturewars.com\/videos\/covid-19-uprising\">https:\/\/culturewars.com\/videos\/covid-19-uprising<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As protests begin to stir globally, E.
