Now large parts of the world are in lockdown because of just such a pandemic.<\/h5>\n<h5>Like the simulated terror drills that were conducted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalresearch.ca\/7-7-mock-terror-drill-what-relationship-to-the-real-time-terror-attacks\/821\"><span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">London on 7\/7<\/span><\/a> and <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\"><a style=\"color: #ffff00;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.globalresearch.ca\/the-military-drills-of-september-11th-why-a-new-investigation-is-needed\/6906\">New York on 9\/11<\/a><\/span> this really is too much of a coincidence. As a mentor repeatedly warned: \u201cThere is no such thing as coincidence\u201d.<\/h5>\n<h5>Was the October gathering in New York a simulated dry run for the Coronavirus pandemic? Is the current Coronavirus scare the biological equivalent of 9\/11?<\/h5>\n<p>https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/worldeconomicforum\/videos\/161293704900821<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">A New York simulation showed we weren\u2019t prepared for coronavirus. But it\u2019s not too late to act<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">B\u00f8rge Brende, President World Economic Forum \u2013 March 9, 2020<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">A simulation responding to a hypothetical global health emergency showed the world was unprepared.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We must come together for a systemic response based on facts, not fear.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Leaders in the private-sector have an important role to play.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Last fall, sixteen leaders from governments, businesses and international organizations gathered in New York to conduct a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/press\/2019\/10\/live-simulation-exercise-to-prepare-public-and-private-leaders-for-pandemic-response\/\">simulated response<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to a hypothetical global health emergency. We looked at the challenges that could arise in such a scenario, which was increasingly likely given the world has about 200 epidemic events per year. We could not know the exercise would become a reality just months later \u2013 but the conclusion was sobering: if it did, the global community was woefully <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/reports.weforum.org\/global-risks-2019\/going-viral\/?doing_wp_cron=1581690103.2472059726715087890625\">unprepared<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">A few months later, the first cases of COVID-19 were reported in China. By the end of January, more than 500 people had been infected, and Wuhan, the origin of the outbreak, had been placed under quarantine. Now, COVID-19 has spread internationally and affected more than 90,000 people, leading to more than 3,000 deaths. The OECD expects it will also cause significant <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/03\/02\/business\/economy\/global-economy-coronavirus.html\">economic damage<\/a><\/strong><\/span>: global economic growth could slow by 1.5 percent, putting the world in a technical recession.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We couldn\u2019t have predicted this <em>specific<\/em> outbreak. But something similar was bound to happen, and if you had asked us during the exercise in New York: \u201cAre we ready for a global health emergency?\u201d, we would have said \u201cno.\u201d The simulation and our previous work had shown there was a lot more to be done to enable public-private cooperation in the face of such a threat. But there is a silver lining: it\u2019s not too late to apply the lessons we learned in the fall.
