Port Vale\u2019s Tom Pope has been charged by the Football Association after posting a tweet last month<\/a> linking the Rothschilds to \u201cevery bank on the planet\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 34-year-old striker has served two one-game bans following improper social media activity this season and he faces further punishment if found guilty after the FA alleged his post about the Rothschilds constituted an \u201caggravated breach\u201d of its rules regarding social media activity. Port Vale<\/a><\/strong><\/span> said Pope would \u201cvigorously defend the charge\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pope wrote the tweet on 5 January, having scored in Port Vale\u2019s defeat <\/a>by Manchester City<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the FA Cup the previous day, and was accused of antisemitism by other Twitter users.<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked by a fan to \u201cpredict the World War III result\u201d Pope tweeted: \u201cWe invade Iran then Cuba then North Korea then the Rothchilds [sic] are crowned champions of every bank on the planet.\u201d When another Twitter user highlighted why the FA might want to investigate a potentially antisemitic remark, Pope defended himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow is it racist??\u201d he replied. \u201cSeriously is someone out to destroy me or what? Someone asked how does WW3 end and I replied when said countries were invaded and they have all the banks!! What\u2019s the problem with that? Seriously??\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In another post, he tweeted: \u201cThey own the bloody banks! There\u2019s no racial malice whatsoever and anyone would say the bloody same! I didn\u2019t choose a side I merely stated they own the banks and that\u2019s it!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

An FA spokesperson said: \u201cTom Pope has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to a social media post on 5 January 2020. It is alleged that his social media activity breaches FA Rule E3(1) as it was abusive and\/or insulting and\/or improper and\/or brought the game into disrepute.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is also alleged that his social media activity constitutes an \u2018aggravated breach\u2019, which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included a reference, whether expressed or implied, to race and\/or religion and\/or ethnic origin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A statement from Port Vale said: \u201cThe Port Vale forward strongly denies allegations that his Twitter comments made \u2018a reference, whether expressed or implied, to race and\/or religion and\/or ethnic origin\u2019 and will vigorously defend the charge.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
