The ‘Independent<\/span><\/a>‘ initially reported that \u201cthousands\u201d marched in Baghdad in protest against the continued U.S. military presence in the country. A few hours later it became apparent that many more that a \u201cfew thousand\u201d took part.<\/h5>\n
Some estimated that as many as two and a half million marched. Why such a big difference?<\/h5>\n
Are the corporate media doing what they did with Saddam Hussein\u2019s weapons of Mass Destruction? Remember how we were fed a steady stream of reports speculating about Saddam\u2019s WMD? They all turned out to entirely baseless but they were used to pave the way for the Iraq invasion.<\/h5>\n
Is something similar happening here? Is the Western media actively trying to play down the extent of opposition to the presence of Western military forces in the country? Just as it once tried to exaggerate the threat posed by Saddam\u2019s non-existent WMD? Ed.<\/h5>\n

Iraqis march in ‘millions’ to call for expulsion of US troops<\/h1>\n

Iraqis\u00a0have rallied in Baghdad in massive numbers to call for an end to US military presence in the country following high-profile assassinations and airstrikes targeting anti-terror forces.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Sayed Sadiq al-Hashemi, the director of the Iraqi Center for Studies, said more than 2.5 million took part in the demonstrations on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the early hours on Friday, huge crowds\u00a0of men, women and children of all ages converged on the Jadriyah neighborhood near\u00a0Baghdad University.<\/span><\/p>\n

The protesters were seen carrying banners and chanting slogans calling for the expulsion of US forces.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Get out, get out, occupier!” some shouted, while others chanted, “Yes to sovereignty!”<\/span><\/p>\n
