Iran\u2019s UK ambassador says BBC Persian news network is partaking in the US-led campaign of economic terrorism targeting the Islamic Republic by painting a black picture of conditions inside the country and instigating Iranians to take their assets out of banks.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Hamid Baeidinejad tweeted the remarks on Thursday, citing a Wednesday \u201cinterview\u201d by the BBC News\u2019 Persian service with a US-based \u201cpolitical activist\u201d as an example of the attempted anti-Iran sabotage by the channel.<\/span><\/p>\n

The envoy said during the \u201cinterview, which had been recorded and planned in advance,\u201d BBC Persian\u2019s presenter and the so-called activist \u201cwere, through painting a very mendacious picture of Iran\u2019s economic situation, unequivocally called\u00a0on Iranians to immediately take their assets out of Iranian banks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they [make so bold as to] call themselves journalists. No this is [not journalism, but] partnership in the economic terrorism project, against Iran\u201d Baeidinejad protested.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last month, UK-based anti-Iran television channels, namely BBC Persian, Manoto, and Saudi-funded Iran International, markedly cranked up their extensive anti-Iranian propaganda campaign by throwing their support behind foreign-backed rioters, who sought to take advantage of protests over a fuel price hike.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tehran has sent an official protest note to Britain\u2019s communications regulator Ofcom over the channels\u2019 \u201cmalicious skewing\u201d of Iran\u2019s recent developments, and \u201ctheir invitation of extensive violence against the country\u2019s civil institutions.\u201d Via the letter, Tehran has required that the media outlets be subjected to due process over their questionable performance.<\/span><\/p>\n
