Fake news giant CBS<\/em> is calling on YouTube to expand its censorship agenda<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>as a means to combat the spread of so-called \u201cconspiracy theories\u201d online. But who, exactly, gets to decide what constitutes a conspiracy theory?<\/span><\/p>\n Leslie Stahl of 60 Minutes<\/em> spoke with YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki during a recent interview, vocalizing her concerns about the threat of not just conspiracy theories but also \u201chate speech\u201d being posted on the Google-owned platform.<\/span><\/p>\n In Stahl\u2019s view, YouTube isn\u2019t doing nearly enough to curb certain forms of free speech online, even though YouTube has been heavily cracking down on \u201cwrongspeak\u201d in recent days, as well as introducing new terms of service that aim to eliminate all channels that aren\u2019t deemed \u201ccommercially viable.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n While addressing YouTube\u2019s \u201ctightening\u201d of its hate speech policies, Stahl asked Wojcicki flat out, \u201cWhy\u2019d you wait so long?\u201d to which Wojcicki responded that YouTube has \u201chad hate policies since the very beginning of YouTube.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Wojcicki tried to proceed in explaining what these policies are until Stahl interrupted her with a quip about how YouTube\u2019s hate speech policies have been \u201cpretty ineffective.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re not operating under some freedom of speech mandate,\u201d Stahl went on to state, emphasizing that \u201cyou get to pick,\u201d referring to Wojcicki and YouTube, which types of content to allow and which types of content to ban.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe do,\u201d Wojcicki responded. \u201cBut we think there\u2019s a lot of benefit from being able to hear from groups and underrepresented groups that otherwise we never would have heard from.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Based on these statements, Wojcicki would seem to be on the side of the First Amendment, as opposed to the tyranny that Stahl believes needs to be ratcheted up at YouTube. As bad as YouTube already is, in other words, Stahl and CBS<\/em> want to make it even worse<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n Even though Wojcicki made the claim during this interview that YouTube allows \u201codious\u201d content that some people may find offensive \u2013 which Stahl took issue with, by the way \u2013 we\u2019re already seeing that this isn\u2019t the case.<\/span><\/p>\n YouTube has been caught censoring videos about Sandy Hook<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, for example, including those that merely question the inconsistencies surrounding the official narrative.<\/span><\/p>\n YouTube has also banned videos promoting the benefits of CBD oil<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, claiming that CBD oil \u201cposes risk of serious physical harm of death.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n This is a subjective assessment, of course, and completely out of line with reality. But that\u2019s the point when it comes to the idea of conspiracy theories: One man\u2019s conspiracy theory is another man\u2019s truth and vice versa.<\/span><\/p>\n The Russian collusion narrative being spread by the mainstream media about President Trump is the very definition of a baseless conspiracy theory, and yet the entire Left has adopted it as truth. Meanwhile, posting vaccine package inserts online is considered by some to be a \u201cconspiracy theory\u201d because vaccine package inserts reveal that vaccines comes with the risk of complications and adverse events, including death.<\/span><\/p>\n What it all comes down to is whether we\u2019re going to respect the Constitutional right of all Americans to speak freely, even if some people don\u2019t like what\u2019s being said, or whether we\u2019re going to take our cue from communist China by controlling every aspect of what people are allowed to read and watch.<\/span><\/p>\n If Lesley Stahl, CBS<\/em>, YouTube, Big Tech and the mainstream media at large are successful in achieving their goals, all news and information will first have to go through censors before being publicly released.
