Many of the houses were ordered to be limewashed to prevent the spread of cholera at the time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">However, Conservative Party Councillor Dermot McGeough says that there have been complaints from some people and that the name is \u201cracist\u201d and needs to be removed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cFollowing a number of complaints from parishioners, I propose that the words \u201cLittle White Town\u201d are removed from all signs within the town and at the town entrances,\u201d said McGeough. \u201cThe wording \u201cLittle White Town\u201d can be perceived as causing a racist slur and not politically correct. Therefore this issue should be rectified immediately. If this wording is not removed, the town council could be classed as a racist white supremacist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CPhh8FCDRts\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n&#8212;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">McGeough told the Telegraph, \u201cIt\u2019s the right thing to do because we don\u2019t want people thinking we\u2019re a bunch of white supremacists.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">McGeough is an idiot and should resign immediately. He is an embarrassment to every single resident of Bideford and yet more proof that the so-called \u2018Conservative Party\u2019 isn\u2019t conservative at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">A poll showed that 69% of residents oppose changing the name while 31% support the measure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">A local man blamed the controversy on \u201cthe influx of people coming who think it\u2019s racist,\u201d adding, \u201cAll the people I associate with think it\u2019s complete madness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Resident Liz Wilde called the proposal \u201cabsolutely bonkers,\u201d commenting, \u201cIt\u2019s part of our history.
