Swedish truant Greta Thunberg called the social media giant to action on Oct. 23, all but demanding the platform do something about her critics after threatening to abandon Facebook.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe constant lies and conspiracy theories about me and countless of others of course result in hate, death threats and ultimately violence,\u201d Thunberg\u00a0wrote<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. \u201cThis could easily be stopped if Facebook wanted to.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI find the lack of taking responsibility very disturbing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Thunberg slammed Facebook for allowing \u201chate speech\u201d as well as allegedly refusing to police and fact-check posts, even though the social media network\u00a0does that<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to disastrous effect.<\/span><\/p>\n This demand comes at a time of apparent declining stardom for the climate activist.<\/span><\/p>\n After Thunberg\u2019s virtue-signaling cross-Atlantic voyage, she delivered a passionate \u2014 and widely criticized \u2014 speech to the United Nations.<\/span><\/p>\n In the wake of this appeal to emotion over facts and reasoning, the activist was hit with a defeat that seems to mark the end of her worldwide rise to fame \u2014\u00a0losing out on the Nobel Peace Prize<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0in favor of an African prime minister.<\/span><\/p>\n Since then, Thunberg\u2019s name has been mostly absent from headlines.<\/span><\/p>\n The young protester is refusing to be swept into the dustbin of pop science, however, and is now calling on her fans to wage a crusade against Facebook.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI find the lack of taking responsibility very disturbing,\u201d she wrote in her post. \u201cBut I\u2019m sure that if they are challenged and if enough of us demand change \u2013 then change will come.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n A little over a week after threatening to leave the social media platform, Thunberg apparently couldn\u2019t stand to be away from the attention of her followers and posted a Halloween selfie.<\/span><\/p>\n Greta Thunberg in front of the Swedish parliament in Stockholm, August 2018 \u2013 image: Wikipedia<\/p><\/div>\n There are plenty of reasons to abandon Facebook, including its\u00a0censorship<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/a>of conservatives and the toll the site can take on\u00a0mental health<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, but Thunberg\u2019s threats appear to be hollow.<\/span><\/p>\n Far from the socialist utopia of Scandinavia, the 16-year-old seems unready for the realities of the real world, including the fact that there are people who will disagree with her.<\/span><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/greta-thunberg-in-front-of-the-Swedish-parliament-in-Stockholm-Aug-2018.jpg\")
