The state of Washington is the first in the union<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to start \u201ccomposting\u201d dead human bodies as crop \u201cfertilizer,\u201d bringing to real life the fictitious scenario depicted in the famous dystopian film Soylent Green<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to reports, Washington\u2019s Senate and House of Representatives approved with strong bipartisan majorities Bill 5001<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, entitled, \u201cConcerning human remains,\u201d which was signed into law by Governor Jay Inslee<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, legalizing the \u201cnatural organic reduction\u201d of human remains<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bill 5001 will take effect on May 1, 2020, allowing for human corpses to undergo a process known as \u201cliquid cremation,\u201d whereby alkaline hydrolysis is used to turn rotting flesh and bones into an \u201corganic fertilizer\u201d sludge.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am very much in favor of the composting of human bodies!\u201d declared Wes McMahan, a retired cardiovascular intensive-care nurse who recently testified in support of the bill.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I\u2019m done with this body that served me very well for the past 64 years, do I want to poison it with formaldehyde and other embalming chemicals? No,\u201d he added. \u201cBurned? Not my first choice. But what about all the bacteria I\u2019ve worked with so long in this body \u2013 do I want to give them a chance to do what they do naturally? I believe in doing things as naturally as possible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Katrina Spade, the founder and CEO of a company known as Recompose that aspires to be the first \u201cnatural organic reduction\u201d funeral home in the United States, is also excited about the bill, which she says fulfills \u201ca longtime hope\u201d of hers to create \u201can urban, soil-based, ecologically friendly death-care option.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFrankly, I\u2019m a little overwhelmed,\u201d she\u2019s quoted as saying by The Seattle Times<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s real now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Pharmaceutical drugs and other toxic chemicals are sure to be released from \u201cliquid cremation\u201d into America\u2019s growing soils<\/h2>\n

Many other supporters of the bill claim that legalizing human composting will be great for the environment, as it\u2019s supposedly \u201cas close to the natural process of decomposition [as] you\u2019d assume a body would undergo before we had an industrialized society.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But is it really a good idea to spread liquid sludge made from dead humans all over our food crops? Because that\u2019s exactly where much of it will go, especially when \u201cliquid cremation\u201d ends up being flushed down the drain or toilet and into the local sewer system.<\/span><\/p>\n

As revealed in the Biosludged<\/em> film<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, wastewater all across the country is now being \u201crecycled\u201d and spread all over farmland, which means whatever\u2019s in it is being absorbed into the food supply.<\/span><\/p>\n

If America now begins \u201crecycling\u201d human beings as liquid rather than simply burying bodies or cremating them into ash, as has traditionally been the case, then these remains will almost certainly end up being converted into recycled \u201cbiosludge\u201d and spread as \u201cfertilizer\u201d on food crops.<\/span><\/p>\n

We already know that this is part of the plan, as folks like McMahan are actually excited about the prospect of creating \u201cfood forests\u201d with human compost \u2013 \u201cso my grandchildren will know where food comes from,\u201d he contends.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s true that traditional burial protocols aren\u2019t necessarily environmentally-friendly, seeing as how embalming fluids and formaldehyde are made from toxic, synthetic chemicals. But human bodies, especially in today\u2019s toxic world, are also poisonous, and loaded with all sorts of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and other poisons that probably shouldn\u2019t be \u201crepurposed\u201d to help grow the foods we all eat.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cReleasing mercury, pharmaceuticals, and disease into the water supply. Sounds like a great idea, what could possibly go wrong?\u201d joked one commenter at The Seattle Times<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThink of all the additional drugs that we give our bodies that will be in the compost,\u201d wrote another.<\/span><\/p>\n
