School officials met with the girl and her family Monday morning before releasing the statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The 12-year-old, who is African American, said three white boy students held her down in a school playground a week ago during recess, covered her mouth, called her insulting names and used scissors to cut her hair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The grandparents of the girl, who are her legal guardians, released an apology Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cTo those young boys and their parents, we sincerely apologize for the pain and anxiety these allegations have caused,\u201d the grandparents wrote in a statement sent to The Washington Post by the school. \u201cTo the administrators and families of Immanuel Christian School, we are sorry for the damage this incident has done to trust within the school family and the undue scorn it has brought to the school. To the broader community, who rallied in such passionate support for our daughter, we apologize for betraying your trust.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cWe understand there will be consequences and we\u2019re prepared to take responsibility for them,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cWe know that it will take time to heal, and we hope and pray that the boys, their families, the school and the broader community will be able to forgive us in time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">[\u2026] The school\u2019s principal, Stephen Danish, also issued a statement and sent an email to parents and community members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cWe can now confirm that the student who accused three of her classmates of assault has acknowledged that the allegations were false. We\u2019re grateful to the Fairfax County Police Department for their diligent work to investigate these allegations,\u201d Danish wrote. \u201cWhile we are relieved to hear the truth and bring the events of the past few days to a close, we also feel tremendous pain for the victims and the hurt on both sides of this conflict. We recognize that we now enter what will be a long season of healing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Fairfax police launched an investigation into the incident last week after they were contacted by the girl\u2019s family. revolvi (@revolvingnetwo1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/revolvingnetwo1\/status\/1178747269870473217?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 30, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">WUSA9 updated their articles to reveal it was a hoax and she \u201ccut her own hair\u201d but added this line to the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #ccffff;
