Parents in Britain are outraged after more than 240 primary schools introduced lessons on \u201cself-stimulation\u201d for children as young as six as part of their sex education program.<\/span><\/p>\n A teaching manual, published by the Mail on Sunday, instructs how to teach children aged six to ten about \u201cthe rules of self-stimulation.\u201d<\/em> The lessons are part of the new All About Me program rolled out in more than 240 primary schools in central England\u2019s Warwickshire County. The program, in turn, is designed to be taught in accordance with the compulsory Relationship and Sex Education (RSE), which will be implemented all across the UK next September.<\/span><\/p>\n In the section called \u2018Touching Myself\u2019, the teachers are advised to tell the youngsters that \u201clots of people like to tickle or stroke themselves as it might feel nice,\u201d<\/em> including touching their \u201cprivate parts.\u201d<\/em> The children are told that this is \u201creally very normal,\u201d<\/em> despite the fact that \u201csome people may get cross or say that it is dirty.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n The children are then warned that it is \u201cnot polite\u201d<\/em> to touch themselves in class or other public places, and they should \u201conly\u201d<\/em> do it when they \u201care alone, perhaps in the bath or shower or in bed.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Some parents were shocked by the program, saying that children of such young ages should not be exposed to mature topics like masturbation. \u201cThis sexualisation of our children is just totally inappropriate,\u201d<\/em> Matthew Seymour told the Mail on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThey are calling it self-touching and they won\u2019t use the term masturbation, but when you read it that\u2019s exactly what they\u2019re talking about.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Parents who disagree with this type of sex education took their children from school when it was taught. A number of education experts and teachers criticized the program\u2019s wording for being too vague and not suitable for primary schoolers.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe never use the word self-stimulation, not in primary school. For us it is not appropriate,\u201d<\/em> teacher Lynette Smith said.<\/span><\/p>\n Even some politicians who support the idea of compulsory sex education are skeptical towards All About Me. Conservative MP David Davies was \u201cfurious\u201d<\/em> over the program.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThese classes go way beyond the guidance the Government is producing and are effectively sexualising very young children,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/span><\/p>\n Warwickshire County Council, meanwhile, maintains that the lessons simply tell young students how to \u201cdistinguish between appropriate and inappropriate touching\u201d<\/em> and \u201crecognise the difference between public and private behaviours.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n The council\u2019s website says the program helps to develop the skills required for managing \u201chealthy relationships,\u201d<\/em> builds \u201cself-esteem\u201d<\/em> and allows the children \u201cto explore personal identity.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
