Not so, if the star is Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters and he sings for jailed WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Mainstream media completely ignored Waters\u2019 performance outside the British interior ministry office on Monday evening. A search of the ProQuest newspaper database found <em>\u201cnothing\u201d<\/em> from any UK newspaper on the event, media fairness website Media Lens tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Pink Floyd&#39;s Roger Waters performed &#39;Wish You Were Here&#39; in support of Julian Assange yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>ProQuest newspaper database finds *two* mentions in global media: in Asian News International, New Delhi, and Prensa Latina, Havana.<\/p>\n<p>It finds NOTHING in any UK newspaper!<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Media Lens (@medialens) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/medialens\/status\/1168795429158494209?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 3, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">A Google News search finds coverage from the World Socialist Web Site, the Irish Examiner, Ecuador-based Telesur, and some Turkish outlets, as well as RT and Sputnik \u2013 but nothing from any major British newspaper or broadcaster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The event was heavily promoted on Twitter by WikiLeaks and Roger Waters himself \u2013 so it appears that the lack of coverage by UK media was a conscious decision rather than an oversight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The silence did not go unnoticed by Assange supporters on social media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><em>\u201cIf Roger Waters were to open his guitar case and sing on any street corner in the world, this would be major cultural news on mainstream media,\u201d<\/em> one <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/adamgarriereal\/status\/1168184088987078656\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>wrote<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Another tweeter <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlanFreestone\/status\/1168801036812902400?s=20\">cited<\/a><\/strong><\/span> the lack of coverage in the Guardian as <em>\u201cmore evidence that it\u2019s just a propaganda mouthpiece for British Intelligence.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A search for blueticks on twitter finds no UK journalist commenting on this. But it&#39;s not silence \u2013 it&#39;s journalists  defending the state, indicating to them \u201cI\u2019m on your side, not Assange\u2019s, I\u2019m reliable\u201d, even as their *own profession* is under major attack. His outrageous treatment is an assault against freedom of speech and journalism.
