Iran has unveiled a state-of-the-art missile defense system designed and manufactured by experts at home as the Islamic Republic marks National Defense Industry Day.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The surface-to-air missile system, dubbed Bavar-373, was unveiled during a ceremony on Thursday morning in the presence of President Hassan Rouhani, Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami and other senior military officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bavar-373 is a mobile missile defense system designed to intercept and destroy incoming hostile targets.\u00a0The system employs missiles that have a maximum range of 300 kilometers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0system is capable of simultaneously detecting up to 300 targets, tracking 60 targets at once and engaging\u00a0six targets at a time.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Iranian defense chief,\u00a0\u201cWith this long-range air defense system, we can detect … targets or planes at more than 300 km, lock it at about 250 km, and destroy it at 200 km.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The system is a competitor to Russia\u2019s S-300 missile system and\u00a0brings quite a few substantial upgrades over its Russian equivalent.<\/span><\/p>\n

The system \u2014 which is compatible with the Sayyad family of missiles \u2014 is also equipped with four vertical launching systems (VLS) capable of hot launching missiles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bavar 373 has two search and intercept radars, which can resist electronic warfare and electromagnetic bombs. In addition, the radars are capable of detecting anti-radiation missiles (ARM) that are used to confront air defenses.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018US pressure only made Iran stronger\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Addressing the event, President Rouhani\u00a0hailed Iran\u2019s significant achievements in the defense industry, adding that the US\u2019s pressure campaign against the Iranian nation over the past years\u00a0has only backfired and pave the way for the Islamic Republic to make further progress.<\/span><\/p>\n

Commenting on the newly-unveiled missile defense system, the president said Bavar 373 \u201cis more powerful than S-300 and is in fact closer to [Russian] S-400,\u201d an upgrade of Russia\u2019s S-300 family.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rouhani lashed at the US for withdrawing from a 2015 nuclear deal signed between Tehran and six world powers and reimposing sanctions on the Islamic Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLeaving the JCPOA means breaking the international law and regulations and [waging] economic terrorism,\u201d he said, using an acronym for the official name of the accord, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Americans wrongly imagined that they could force Iran to surrender by trampling on international rules and piling up economic pressure on the Islamic Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rouhani, however, reaffirmed that Iran would never surrender to bullying, and that the US\u2019s excessive demands from the region will lead nowhere.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no doubt that the US has not succeeded and will not succeed in any plot in the region,\u201d said the president, adding that the Americans would \u201cbe the first to flee\u201d if any danger is posed to the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s defense chief also delivered a speech at the event, saying the country has made great breakthroughs in all areas of defense in defiance of American sanctions.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said that Iran has managed to produce \u201ceffective systems not only to counter aerial threats at\u2026low, medium and high altitudes, but also to detect, track and destroy radar-evading aircraft and missiles from a safe distance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On Iran\u2019s missile program, Hatami said, \u201cWe focus on the effectiveness of missiles through increasing precision, maneuverability, speed and conventional explosive power to overcome the enemy\u2019s defense systems,\u201d said Hatami.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hatami reiterated that the projectiles are not designed to carry nuclear warheads, adding that Iran\u2019s defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to the strategic decision of the Islamic Republic of Iran based on the important and historical fatwas (religious decrees) of Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] in the field of missiles, we have not designed any missiles with unconventional warheads,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n
