If the reports are correct, Facebook will scan your messages before you send them and report anything suspicious.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">It\u2019s a huge violation of privacy and renders WhatsApp\u2019s end-to-end encryption pointless.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Facebook will do the same thing with its new currency,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ccn.com\/crypto\/facebook-libra-cryptocurrency-whitepaper-testnet\/2019\/06\/18\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Libra<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, scanning transactions through the Calibra wallet. Facebook is building a mass-surveillance currency and we should push back with force.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Get off WhatsApp. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFacebook announced earlier this year preliminary results from its efforts to move a global mass surveillance infrastructure directly onto users\u2019 devices where it can bypass the protections of end-to-end encryption.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uj5czJUgBA\">https:\/\/t.co\/uj5czJUgBA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Paul Shetler (@paul_shetler) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paul_shetler\/status\/1155301922603094016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 28, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">ZUCKERBERG\u2019S WHATSAPP WIRE-TAPPING<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">According to a Forbes report, Facebook is experimenting with a blacklist filter and content-scanner for WhatsApp. The algorithm would read messages\u00a0<em>before\u00a0<\/em>they are sent and detect suspicious activity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201c[It] will include embedded content moderation and blacklist filtering algorithms\u2026 will run locally on the user\u2019s device, scanning each cleartext message before it is sent and each encrypted message after it is decrypted.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">If anything suspicious is found, your message will be sent to Facebook central servers for further investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cWhen it detects violations it will need to quietly stream a copy of the formerly encrypted content back to its central servers to analyze further,\u00a0<strong>even if the user objects<\/strong>, acting as true wiretapping service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">LIBRA CRYPTOCURRENCY SURVEILLANCE AND BLACKLISTING<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Those same back-doors are being built into Facebook\u2019s cryptocurrency wallet, Calibra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">According to Calibra\u2019s own terms and conditions, the wallet provider will send transaction data back to Facebook in various circumstances:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cThe limited cases where [account information or financial data] may be shared reflect our need to keep people safe, comply with the law, and provide basic functionality to the people who use Calibra.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In other words, there\u2019s a back-door for Calibra to send information to Facebook if there\u2019s suspicious activity or if the government demands it.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">13\/ &#8230;assuming the merchant uses Calibra or a connected processing service. Wisconsin senator Sean Duffy\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/1668426\/david-marcus-testifies-on-facebooks-libra-before-congress\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>asked whether alt-right personalities who have been banned from Facebook could use Libra<\/strong><\/span><\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cWith regard to your network, can Milo Yiannopoulos or Louis Farrakhan use Libra?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cI don\u2019t know yet,\u201d Marcus replied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">There\u2019s a strong chance Facebook could blacklist users or transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Despite Facebook\u2019s promise to evolve into a fully permissionless, decentralized system, there are huge question marks over Facebook\u2019s control of the ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">WILL LIBRA EVEN LAUNCH?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Regulators are bearing down on Facebook, threatening to quash the project before it gets going. In the company\u2019s latest quarterly report, Zuckerberg admitted the Libra project could be severely delayed and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/07\/29\/facebook-warns-investors-that-libra-may-never-see-the-light-of-day.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>may not even launch at all<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cIn addition, market acceptance of such currency is subject to significant uncertainty.
