{"id":192163,"date":"2019-07-26T07:40:40","date_gmt":"2019-07-26T07:40:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=192163"},"modified":"2019-07-29T06:44:30","modified_gmt":"2019-07-29T06:44:30","slug":"shock-survey-12-of-u-s-corn-farmers-didnt-get-their-crops-planted-48-expect-below-average-yields-this-harvest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=192163","title":{"rendered":"Shock Survey: 12% Of U.S. Corn Farmers Didn\u2019t Get Their Crops Planted, 48% Expect \u201cBelow-Average Yields This Harvest\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Michael Snyder \u2013 The End of the American Dream July 24, 2019<\/h1>\n<div id=\"attachment_54191\" style=\"width: 369px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Drought-damaged-crops-in-Indianna..jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-54191\" class=\"size-full wp-image-54191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Drought-damaged-crops-in-Indianna..jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"359\" height=\"239\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-54191\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Drought damaged crops.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Crops all over America are failing, and the true extent of this crisis is starting to become clearer.\u00a0 Months of endless rain and nightmarish flooding prevented many farmers in the middle of the country from getting their crops planted on time, and millions of acres didn\u2019t get planted at all.\u00a0 And if all that wasn\u2019t enough, this month record high temperatures have been absolutely brutal for vulnerable young crops across the Midwest.\u00a0 We shall see how the rest of the summer goes, but at this point it appears that yields are going to be way, way below expectations, and that has very serious implications for all of us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">I told my readers that I would stay on top of this story, and things have deteriorated substantially since the last time I wrote about this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Earlier, I stumbled upon a brand new AGPRO survey of U.S. corn farmers that seems to indicate that things are worse than almost all of us thought.\u00a0 According to <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.agprofessional.com\/article\/48-farmers-say-their-corn-crop-below-average\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>that survey<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, 12 percent of U.S. corn farmers didn\u2019t plant crops at all this year, and 48 percent expect \u201cbelow-average yields this harvest\u201d\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Forty-eight percent of U.S. farmers say they expect their corn crop will deliver below-average yields this harvest, according to a Farm Journal Pulse survey conducted on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Of the 1,082 farmers who responded to the survey, 12% say they didn\u2019t get their crop planted. Only 10% of farmers surveyed say their crop is above average this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In other words, corn farmers are telling us that they aren\u2019t going to grow very much corn this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And the latest USDA crop progress report confirms that.\u00a0 In particular, the numbers coming from the Upper Midwest <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.agweek.com\/business\/agriculture\/4640631-report-shows-2019-crop-continues-lag\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>are absolutely disastrous<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Minnesota: 21% of corn had silked by July 21, compared with the five-year average of 56%; 57% was rated good or excellent, the rest fair to very poor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">North Dakota: 10% of corn had silked by July 21, compared with the five-year average of 32%; 77% was in good or excellent shape, the rest fair to very poor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">South Dakota: 9% of corn had silked by July 21, down from the five-year average of 50%; 58% was rated good or excellent, the rest fair to very poor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">You can look at the raw numbers for yourself <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/downloads.usda.library.cornell.edu\/usda-esmis\/files\/8336h188j\/s1784z17b\/h128ns105\/prog3019.txt\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>right here<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 Nationally, <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/downloads.usda.library.cornell.edu\/usda-esmis\/files\/8336h188j\/s1784z17b\/h128ns105\/prog3019.txt\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>35 percent<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of corn had silked as of July 21, but on July 21 last year that number was sitting at <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/downloads.usda.library.cornell.edu\/usda-esmis\/files\/8336h188j\/s1784z17b\/h128ns105\/prog3019.txt\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>78 percent<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">That is less than half.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Earlier this year, there were some that were criticizing me for sounding the alarm about crop failures, but after these numbers what is happening should be apparent to everyone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And a similar pattern is happening with soybeans.\u00a0 Here are more numbers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.agweek.com\/business\/agriculture\/4640631-report-shows-2019-crop-continues-lag\">from the Upper Midwest<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Minnesota: 47% of soybeans had bloomed by July 21, compared with the five-year average of 70%; 60% was in good or excellent condition, the rest fair to very poor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">North Dakota: 49% of soybeans had bloomed by July 21, compared with the five-year average of 70%; 66% was in good or excellent shape, the rest fair to very poor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">South Dakota: 45% of beans had bloomed by July 21, compared with the five-year average of 65%; 47% was rated good or excellent, the rest fair to very poor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Nationally, <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/downloads.usda.library.cornell.edu\/usda-esmis\/files\/8336h188j\/s1784z17b\/h128ns105\/prog3019.txt\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>40 percent<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of soybeans had bloomed as of July 21, but on July 21 last year that number was sitting at 76 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">That is just over half.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And just because crops are on schedule does not mean that they are in good condition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">According<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> to <a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/wqad.com\/2019\/07\/24\/stutzkes-stats-midwest-crops-continue-to-lag-behind\/\">one report<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, over 20 million corn and soybean acres are \u201cin poor to very poor condition\u201d\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">More than 20 million U.S. corn and soybean acres remain in poor to very poor condition. Illinois leads with 4.2 million acres in poor or unfavorable condition. The news isn\u2019t much better in Iowa where 2 million acres are also listed under similar conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Let that sink in for a moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">20 million acres.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And all of this is happening at a time when crops are failing all over the world due to nightmarish weather conditions.\u00a0 For much more on this, please see my previous article entitled <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"http:\/\/themostimportantnews.com\/archives\/look-at-this-map-it-shows-devastating-crop-losses-are-literally-happening-all-over-the-globe\">\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Look At This Map \u2013 It Shows Devastating Crop Losses Are Literally Happening All Over The Globe<\/strong><\/span>\u201d<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">For U.S. farmers, weather conditions at the end of the growing season are going to be critical.\u00a0 Many are hoping that warm weather will last as long as possible in order to allow their crops time to catch up and come to maturity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">But if an early hard frost comes along, that is going to be absolutely devastating.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In any event, it has become crystal clear that production is going to be way, way down this year.\u00a0 Of course we are all going to want the same amount of food to eat next year, and so that is going to put an enormous amount of stress on the system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Any college course in economics will teach you that when demand remains the same and supply goes down, prices go up.\u00a0 In the short-term we should expect to see food prices steadily rise, and that trend should accelerate as this crisis intensifies.\u00a0 I would very much encourage you <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2SBMMuc\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>to get prepared<\/strong><\/span><\/a> while you still can.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Globally, we are in an even more precarious situation.\u00a0 More than 7.5 billion people currently live on our planet, and we really struggle to feed them all even during the best years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">So now that crops are failing <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/themostimportantnews.com\/archives\/look-at-this-map-it-shows-devastating-crop-losses-are-literally-happening-all-over-the-globe\">all over the planet<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, what are we going to do?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">I suspect that those at the bottom of the economic food chain will be hit the hardest.\u00a0 As food supplies get tighter, the wealthier countries will have the resources to secure what they need, and that will leave a whole lot of others to fend for themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">According <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/news\/press-release\/2018\/10\/17\/nearly-half-the-world-lives-on-less-than-550-a-day\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>to the World Bank<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, close to half the population of the planet currently lives on less than $5.50 a day.\u00a0 We are talking about billions of people, and they are simply not prepared to handle a radical shock to global food prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><em>About the author: <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2CKeYnY\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Michael Snyder<\/strong><\/span><\/a> is a nationally-syndicated writer, media personality and political activist.
