The thing is the Iranians have denied that any of their drones was downed<\/a><\/span> and on balance we would give them the benefit of the doubt. Because despite Trump\u2019s insistence that an Iranian drone was downed, the U.S. has yet to provide any hard evidence to support this claim.<\/h5>\n
At least when they downed a U.S. Global Hawk recently the Iranians were able to display wreckage from the downed U.S. drone. The Pentagon has provided zilch to support its claim: no photos, no film, no wreckage, nothing.<\/h5>\n
Moreover, readers will note that the following makes no mention of Iranian denials that it lost a drone or the absence of any evidence to back U.S. claims. Making what follows little more than an empty sales pitch. Ed.<\/h5>\n

On Thursday, a US Navy ship in the Persian Gulf reportedly used a new, anti-drone system to take down an Iranian drone that came within a thousand yards, according to Military.com<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the Department of Defense confirmed that the USS Boxer was moving through the Strait of Hormuz when it was approached by a fixed-wing drone which \u201cclosed within a threatening range,\u201d which prompted the ship\u2019s crew to take \u201cdefensive action.\u201d Iran has denied the allegation<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to C4ISRNET<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the Marines aboard the USS Boxer used a new system called a MRZR LMADIS<\/strong><\/span><\/a> \u2014 a Light Marine Air Defense Integrated System. The system is mounted on a Polaris MRZR vehicle, which has appeared in DoD photos of the ship. USNI News<\/em> says that<\/a><\/strong><\/span> it\u2019s the \u201cfirst known kill by a new generation of electronic warfare and directed energy weapons\u201d by the US<\/span><\/p>\n
