Click to enlarge<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong>Topline:<\/strong> A federal appeals court Wednesday ordered that 167 documents in a lawsuit that alleges famously well-connected financier Jeffrey Epstein participated in a sex-trafficking ring should be unsealed\u2014and that many of his powerful friends could be named.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In its 27-page decision, <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ca2.uscourts.gov\/decisions\/isysquery\/c16e9479-8adc-450c-a488-4634eb945c53\/1\/doc\/18-2868_16-3945_complete_opn.pdf#xml=http:\/\/www.ca2.uscourts.gov\/decisions\/isysquery\/c16e9479-8adc-450c-a488-4634eb945c53\/1\/hilite\/\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:http:\/\/www.ca2.uscourts.gov\/decisions\/isysquery\/c16e9479-8adc-450c-a488-4634eb945c53\/1\/doc\/18-2868_16-3945_complete_opn.pdf#xml=http:\/\/www.ca2.uscourts.gov\/decisions\/isysquery\/c16e9479-8adc-450c-a488-4634eb945c53\/1\/hilite\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>the court cited<\/strong><\/span><\/a> the public\u2019s right to access the case information outweighed the privacy of certain individuals, \u201cincluding numerous prominent American politicians, powerful business executives, foreign presidents, a well\u2010known Prime Minister, and other world leaders.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Virginia Guiffre (now Roberts) filed the lawsuit against Ghislane Maxwell, alleging that she had used her as part of a sex trafficking network of underage girls to Epstein and a number of his famous friends, including his lawyer Alan Dershowitz and Prince Andrew. As the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/local\/article220097825.html\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/local\/article220097825.html\"><em data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/local\/article220097825.html\">Miami Herald<\/em> revealed<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in its investigative series \u201cPerversion of Justice,\u201d Epstein managed to escape all federal charges through a plea deal that gave him and all of his coconspirators immunity, with all documents being sealed. Epstein ended up pleading guilty to one state prostitution charge in Florida. He then registered as a sex offender and paid unspecified restitution to three dozen victims identified by the FBI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The contentious plea deal was orchestrated by U.S. attorney Alexander Acosta, now President Trump\u2019s secretary of labor. The<em> Miami<\/em> <em>Herald\u2019<\/em>s reporting prompted calls for Acosta to resign, but he has remained in his Cabinet post.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In February, a U.S. district judge determined federal prosecutors, including Acosta, broke the law by failing to notify victims before Epstein pleaded guilty to the Florida prostution charge. That decision could potentially <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/21\/us\/jeffrey-epstein-judge-prosecution-agreement.html\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/21\/us\/jeffrey-epstein-judge-prosecution-agreement.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>nullify Epstein\u2019s plea deal<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, opening him up to new federal charges.
